ONLINE TRAINING SESSION: THE ESSENTIALS OF WRITING AND ISSUING A PRESS RELEASE
Monday, 1 December 2025 at 19:00:00 UTC
Zoom
Obtaining media coverage for your own organisation if you work in-house, or on behalf of clients, is core to successful PR. However, getting the right information in front of the right journalist at the right time can be a daunting prospect.
Ros Shiel and John Porter have extensive experience of working both sides of the street in PR terms: Ros as a PR consultant both in-house and in agencies, and John as a journalist and editor on the receiving end of press releases. They co-founded specialist hospitality PR consultancy ShielPorter Communications more than a decade ago, and routinely secure client coverage in the consumer, trade, national and broadcast media.
This training session will draw on that experience to look at the full life cycle of a press release from initial draft to obtaining coverage, including:
What journalists/editors look for:
Defining target media and building distribution lists
Hook and angles
Length and content
Tone and style
Photography
What else to include: Editors’ notes, contact details etc
Embargos: When and why?
Follow-ups
How to annoy a journalist: The things PRs get wrong
This event is free to all members. RSVP to attend this event by emailing Kimberley on: Marketing@beerguild.co.uk.
