What is the one thing you'd like to tell visitors to the Guild's website?

I am passionate about beer! I love to spread the world about beer and encourage people to immerse themselves in it’s culture and heritage.

I am professionally trained by the Beer and Cider Academy to teach people about the brewing process, beer styles plus beer and food pairings. I also have experience and expertise in the industry that allows me to help others.

I am also the National Coordinator for the Tryanuary campaign and Founder/Organiser of Festival of Brewers.

I run group tours around Leeds on behalf of UK Brewery Tours and also have regular media appearances including the Yorkshire Evening Post and BBC Radio Leeds

What you can offer as a writer/beer lover?

My writing style has always been to keep things in a straight-forward, easy way, for people to understand. I’m keen to make sure that what I’m writing about is understood by novices to the scene as well as experts!

I am an experienced blog writer and have had several articles published in local Yorkshire-based media, including local CAMRA branch magazines and the Yorkshire reporter.

I also appear regularly on BBC Radio Leeds.

What do you like most about being a Guild of Beer Writers member?

The Guild is a prestigious group with some wonderfully talented and award-winning members. I’m proud to be a guild member! It’s also great that the Guild offers various ways to help develop yourself, from formal training, to mentoring. Plus, I have access to some very experienced people if I need help.

Pieces of work by Mike:

  • Statement on CAMRA

This article was published on my blog in early 2019. It’s in response to a letter published in CAMRA’s What’s Brewing newspaper. The letter offered thoughts about why it was difficult to encourage members to become active within the campaign.

  • A Roller Coaster Day for Cloudwater

This article was published on my blog in early 2019. It reflects on the events surrounding Cloudwater’s first ever Friends and Family beer festival.
