2018 events: dates for diaries

We have a number of events planned for Guild members over the next few months, starting with our Summer Party on 6 August.   Please read the summaries below and go to our events page for more details on each.

Guild Summer Party
Date + time: Monday 6 August, 6.30 – 9.30
Venue: Brixton Brewery, Unit 1-2 Dylan Road (off Milkwood Road) London SE24 0HL

The Guild’s traditional pre-Great British Beer Festival party. Meet friends old and new and enjoy a selection of beers kindly donated by supporters of the Guild.

We are delighted to be holding this event at Brixton Brewery, with thanks to the team at Brixton and at Heineken for their generous hospitality. This event is free to Guild members.

NB:Brixton Brewery has recently relocated and their previous address still appears online. Please use the above, correct address to find the shiny new brewery!

Seminar: The Pub: Evolving or Dying?
Date + time: Wednesday 19 September, 10.00 – 4.00
Venue: The Button Factory, 25 Frederick Street, Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham B11 3HH

The British pub has survived, even thrived, by changing with the times. This seminar, organised with the Brewery History Society, looks at the evolution of pubs and the societal changes and other influences that have shaped their development.

Our speakers include: David Bruce, founder of the Firkin chain of pubs and City Pub Co and chairman of West Berkshire Brewery; Susan Martindale of Mitchells & Butlers; Peter Martin of CGA; pub history experts Mike Hailwood and Paul Jennings and Charlie Rawlings of the Micropub Association. Robyn Black, editor of Inapub, will be chairing the event, which will include lunch at the pub.

We are holding this event at the Button Factory, 25 Frederick Street, Jewellery Quarter  Birmingham, B1 3HH. An optional tour of the city’s pubs will take place in the evening.

This event is free of charge to members of both the Guild of Beer Writers and the Brewery History Society.

Annual Awards and Dinner
Date + time: Thursday 22 November, 6.30 – midnight
Venue: Chelsea Harbour Hotel

The Guild’s annual dinner and presentation of our awards for beer writing, will take place on Thursday 22 November.

We are this year at a new venue, the Chelsea Harbour Hotel, for this not-to-be-missed event which includes a four-course dinner matched with beers, pre-and post-meal beers provided by our sponsors and the announcement of the winners of our nine award categories, Beer Writer of the Year and Brewer of the Year.

Tickets will be on sale shortly at £60 (inc VAT) per head for individual Guild members and £125 (inc VAT) for corporate members or non-members. Please save the date and watch this space for details of how to buy tickets.
