6th BeerBartender Awards announce winners

The 6th BeerBartender Awards took place on Monday, February 25,2019, at The HUB Events.

The event was attended by several members of the business world, representatives of the beer industry from all over Greece, bartenders, journalists, members of the Hellenic Association of Brewers and its president, Sophocles Panagiotou and the Association of Small Independent Brewers of Greece.

The Greek Beer Awards were awarded for the third consecutive year, the only Greek beer awards given after a blind taste process. The tastings were held on February 11, 2019. The tasting panel consisted exclusively of members of the brewing industry form all over the world offering a multinational and objective view. The judges this year were Frances Brace, Director of the British Guild of Beer Writers and Founder of Red Flame Communications, Andreas Fält, Development and Export Manager at Prime Beer Russia, Member of British Guild of Beer Writers, Shachar Hertz, Beer Specialist in Israel and Founder of the Beer & Beyond and Panayiotis Savva, Gypsy Brewer, Owner and Manager of Barrel House Bar in Cyprus. The judges tasted more than 65 beers from 12 categories.

The big winner of the evening was Siris Microbrewery with eleven awards, followed by Hellenic Brewery of Atalanti, with eight awards. Seven of the distinctions were awarded to Septem Microbrewery and Athenian Brewery both in the Consumers Awards as well as the Greek Beer Awards as a whole. Voreia Imerial Porter of Siris Microbrewery was named Top Ale and Top Lager was awarded to One-Eyed Jack from Midnight Circus, having received the highest ratings in their respective styles.

An impressive appearance was made by Olympic Brewery with six awards and Standard Microbrewery of Thessaloniki with five. Four distinctions were won by the new Midnight Circus Gypsy Brewing, as well as ELIXI Microbrewery, Mykonos Brewing Company, Noctua Microbrewery of Athens, and Santorini Brewing Company. For the third consecutive year Hellenic Brewery of Atalanti emerged as the consumers favorite in the Greek Brewery category, while ALFA beer TV Commercial: “The Next Step”, managed once again to move and touch the consumers in the category “TV-spot”. Honorable mention this year was awarded to Standard Microbrewery of Heraklion (Notos Brewery) for their “Yellow Mission” beer whose proceeds will go to the Yellow Mission organization which helps cover the basic needs of underprivileged families. Supporter of this effort is Ale Box which offers the raw materials for its production.

The major sponsor of the event was Jameson Cask Mates which was served to the guests, neat, on the rocks or as chaser with stout beer, by “The 7 Jockers Bar”. Supporters of the evening were EGEM company, BeerBlog.gr and Beer & Bar Magazine.
