A NEW LEASE OF LIFE FOR THE TWO TUBS FOLLOWING £150K REFURBISHMENT

The Two Tubs, the oldest standing building in Bury’s town centre has unveiled its new look following the completion of a £150,000 refurbishment programme as part of a joint investment with award-winning Lancashire brewer, Daniel Thwaites.

Built in the 16th century, the popular Bury pub was officially re-opened this weekend by Thwaites special guest, and new addition to the family Shire horse, Star!

In a bid to restore the pub to its former glory, new landlord Thomas Kennedy has overseen extensive repairs and improvements to both the interior and exterior frontage which has given the establishment a much-needed overhaul, whilst retaining it’s much loved character.

For landlord Thomas the investment was key to bringing The Two Tubs back into the 21st century.

Commenting on the refurb, Thomas said: “The restoration of the Two Tubs has meant a lot to so many people, it is the heart and soul of the community. The amount of people who turned out for the re-opening just shows what a large part it plays in the local community.

“The revamp will make a huge difference – it’s been long overdue and a lot of thought and planning has gone in to it to ensure that the character of this unique pub has been safeguarded. I’m now looking forward to welcoming customers old and new back to the Two Tubs and taking it forward to a successful 2015.”

The pub has also extended its selection of quality hand pulled Thwaites cask ales including Nutty Black, Thwaites Original and selected guest ales, along with an improved menu of locally sourced, traditional home cooked dishes such as daily special hotpots and pies, fish and chips and of course Bury’s famous black pudding.

The pub will host a variety of music nights, from Irish Folk to Blues and Northern Soul, whilst continuing with Friday and Saturday night DJs playing music for all generations.

Andrew Buchanan, director of pub operations at Thwaites, commented: “Thomas has done an incredible job so far. His experience partnered with his passion and energy is sure to help bring the Two Tubs back to life just to time for Christmas.”
