Adnams moves to 100% Renewable Energy

Suffolk company leads the way in Sustainable Business Practice

Adnams, the Suffolk based Brewery and Distillery, is now only using energy from 100% renewable sources across its entire business.

The move marks the conclusion of a project that has seen Adnams move its electricity supply to 100% renewable sources over several years. The brewery moved to renewables last year with the company’s offices, stores and Distribution Centre following suit.

The switch to green energy has reduced Adnams’ annual carbon emissions by over 1,000 tonnes of CO2, which is equivalent to the footprint of an average family car travelling three million miles or the annual energy usage of over 200 UK homes.

Ben Orchard, Adnams Environmental Sustainability Manager, comments: “We are committed to supporting a sustainable future to minimise the impacts of climate change. Other businesses are setting the 100% renewable target for 2020 and beyond, so we are proud to be able to demonstrate our early adoption of this.

“As a sustainable business we are really keen to encourage the increased use and generation of renewable electricity in the UK, helping to reduce our impact on the planet and remove reliance on fossil fuels.”

David Cockshott, Chief Commercial Officer at SmartestEnergy, Adnams’ Electricity Supplier, added: “It is great to see Adnams’ ongoing commitment to sustainability. By choosing to be powered by renewable electricity from completely natural sources, they are supporting the decarbonisation of the UK and specifically the independent generation sector that is leading to a modern decentralised energy system for the future. We hope to see more organisations following suit as we all strive to achieve ambitious carbon reduction targets.”
