Just in time for Halloween, Adnams is welcoming a thunderous new shipmate to the iconic Ghost Ship family – Adnams Double Ghost IPA.
Coming in at 5.2% ABV, the new Indian Pale Ale is double dry hopped, combining Citra hops with Centennial and Chinook. The flavour profile is bold, with the recognisable citrus and warming spice of the original Ghost Ship, supercharged with an additional layer of tropical fruit and intense hoppy character.
Dan Gooderham, Head Brewer at Adnams, commented: “It’s been a long-held ambition to do a further iteration of Ghost Ship. The Citra hop really has not only transformed the brewing landscape, but the Adnams brewery itself. To further explore this hop in an IPA and try to coax different nuances out of the ingredients, while staying true to the original is always a dream for a brewer.
“We are extremely pleased with how it turned out. It has expressed a lot more mango than we expected and has both a pineapple and an orange note on the palate. You’ll find the characteristic spiciness from the rye on the finish and there’s good weight to the body and mouthfeel.”
Continuing the legacy, the amplified IPA joins the original Adnams Ghost Ship 4.5% Pale Ale and the 0.5% option, ensuring there’s a Ghost Ship for every palate and preference.
The trio of brews is inspired by the ghost stories surrounding ships lost to storms on the shores off Southwold, the home of the Adnams brewery. With eerie ships adorning each label, the range makes the perfect spooky addition to any Halloween celebration.
Max Bond, Head of Sales at Adnams added: “Double Ghost IPA is set to be our most exciting beer launch of 2024. There was space in our range to accommodate an IPA with this strength of character, and the fact that it could also complement the existing Ghost Ship family was an exciting bonus.
“The supermarkets have seen its potential. We’ve received an amazing response from UK retailers, with several listings lined up for autumn, to coincide with its October launch. We will also have a limited release in cask, to support the brand’s launch in the pubs. With preorders already sailing in, it should fly.”

About Adnams
Founded by George and Ernest Adnams in 1872, Adnams began as a Southwold brewery on the Suffolk coast and has been fiercely independent for the last 150 years. In 2010, Adnams became the first brewery in England to build a distillery on the same site. Its pioneering spirit has enabled Adnams to become a distinctive brewer, distiller, wine merchant, retailer, publican, and hotelier. From its Southwold home, Adnams crafts award-winning premium beers and spirits which are available from its retail stores, managed properties, partner pubs, and in outlets nationwide and overseas. Adnams has long taken pride in its heritage and strong values and is committed to running its business sustainably, leaving its footprints in the sand, not on the planet.
