Ale & Oyster Festival at The Anchor, Walberswick

Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August

The Anchor, Walberswick, IP18 6UA

Join us for our 14th Beer Festival!

Founder of the Beer Academy, Mark Dorber is putting on a selection of 20 characterful cask ales for his 14th festival at the Anchor in Walberswick.

Twelve gravity dispensed cask ales will be poured in the 18th Century flint barn. In the main bar, along with hand-pulled cask ales there will be craft keg beers from local heroes Adnams along with London brewed Meantime and Lagunitas from California. There will also be a few guest beers in addition to the regular line-up of 40 classic international bottled beers.

On Saturday & Sunday in the afternoon, the wonderful Bram Haward, 7th generation of the famous Company Shed dynasty oystermen will be shucking his rocks off (Gigas oysters more precisely) from 12 – 5pm on both days. Last year they shucked over 1000 oysters and this year they are bringing 1700 oysters!

And it’s not just great beers, on Saturday lunchtime there will be a special seafood feast BBQ/wood-fired oven offering half lobsters, razor clams, Cornish sardines, lobster, chilli & garlic marinated cuttlefish and tandoori monkfish tails, mussels and more. Plus delicious hand-crafted food with an array of superb sausages from The Butler’s Blythburgh Pork. Anchor burgers with a soft home-baked bun and an abundance of sumptuous fresh salads.

Live music, various bands on our front terrace as well as our pub piano available for impromptu performances (auditions on the day!)

The Anchor terrace will be buzzing all weekend with foodie friends flocking to enjoy the lovely setting, with its unrivalled views over Walberswick beach, its dunes and beach huts. And of course, the bar and restaurant will be open as usual with the Anchor’s seasonal menu featuring: Red Poll beef, Cromer crab linguine and great ingredients such as our allotment courgettes and seasoned with our homegrown marjoram, rosemary, mint, lemon balm and thyme from our herb garden.
