Arkell’s Brewery to open its doors for a recruitment event

Arkell’s Brewery is opening its doors to host a recruitment event on Tuesday 26th March for anyone thinking of becoming a landlord or landlady. The event is designed to provide anyone attending with an insight into what it takes to run a pub and the entrepreneurial opportunity it can create.

From developing your own brand or managing a team to playing an active role in the community – pub landlords will have the opportunity to grow their business expertise whilst having the support of Arkell’s Brewery behind them.

There are over 48,000 pubs in the UK, providing 894,817 jobs to the UK workforce each year[1]. Running a pub is a great opportunity to join a strong industry, with the beer and pub sector contributing a massive £21.3billion to the UK[2] economy annually; and the Wiltshire area said to have some of the UK’s most interesting and quirky pubs in the country.

Taking place between 3 pm – 7 pm at The Grape and Grain, Arkell’s on-site beers, wines and spirits warehouse, the event will offer a chance for attendees to learn more about building a career as a landlord or landlady in one of Arkell’s 100 pubs.

George Arkell, Managing Director said: “We are incredibly passionate about pubs and brewing the finest beers, lagers and ales. This passion extends across all parts of the business and it is important to us that our licensees feel empowered to make their mark on the pub and can enjoy being their own boss.

“We are looking for people that have lots of personality and a can-do attitude to life. We don’t ask for any formal qualifications, but excellent communication skills, great time management skills and the willingness to look after great beer are a brilliant start.”

Ayesha Robson, landlady of The Riverside Inn said: “Being a landlady isn’t just a job, it’s a way of life. No two days are ever the same. You meet some amazing characters and bring people together, it’s a really fantastic job.”

NOTES TO EDITOR

Arkell’s Brewery was established in 1843 by John Arkell. Arkell’s is Swindon’s oldest business and one of just 29 family breweries left in the UK. This year Arkell’s is celebrating 176 years in the brewery business and has four members of the Arkell’s family still remaining, Chairman James Arkell, his cousin Nick Arkell, Head of Sales, and James’ sons George, and Alex Arkell are Managing Director and Head Brewer respectively.

The Arkell family work at the brewery alongside generations of other local families, brewing real ale and looking after nearly 100 pubs across Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Hampshire. Arkell’s ales include Award-winning beers such as Wiltshire Gold, 3Bs, Kingsdown and Hoperation IPA. Special ales are brewed regularly, with Head Brewer, Alex Arkell, keeping the art of craft ale alive, offering drinkers new tastes and flavours all hand made in their brewery.
