The second Harrogate Beer Week will take place from 19 – 25 September, presenting a week packed with brilliant events and other beer themed opportunities to get involved, put together by the town’s local beer people and businesses.
The first ever Harrogate Beer Week took place in 2021 with 37 events over 7 days across 13 venues showcasing five local breweries and with special guests, including leading beer writers, journalists and sommeliers.
This year the inimitable Pete Brown – multi-award winning beer writer, journalist, broadcaster and consultant – will headline the event. Originally from Yorkshire, Pete will be in Harrogate to talk about his book, Clubland: How the working men’s club shaped Britain, which includes a look at the astonishing untold history and phenomenon that has shaped modern British culture without anyone really noticing, launching the careers of global stars like Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey and Steve Davies. One not to miss!
As well as Pete Brown, the 2022 programme features more than 30 different events across seven days including seafood and beer pairings, a display of beer books at Harrogate Library, a ‘bring your own’ Bottle Share night, beer pong tournaments, charcuterie and beer in the tipi at Cedar Court Hotel on the Stray, a blind beer tasting, an evening with our local brewers, a Harrogate Oktoberfest event with local beer, sausages, and music, a Pomona Island tap takeover with food from Paradise Tap and Taco, cheese fondue with barrel aged beers from Cold Bath Brewery, a battle of the (Leeds) breweries, a beers and hops talk and tasting, a drop in beer chat for those who want to explore beer and ask all those burning questions, a brewery open weekend + tour, alongside quizzes, other tap takeovers, a range of live music, and a drink and draw event.
The beer scene in Harrogate is impressive, and the town punches well above its weight. As our high streets evolve and people seek experiences, the town is strongly placed to deliver. With several independent bars offering exceptional ranges of both new and classic beers at any one time, Harrogate is firmly establishing itself as a unique and exciting UK beer destination.
The founder of Harrogate Beer Week is Rachel Auty, a Harrogate-based beer lover who also works as Head of Marketing at Brew York, is delighted to see the event return, saying “I believe there’s little better in life than going to the pub – with family, friends, or even just with like minded strangers you happen to meet there or just share the space with – especially when the chips are down. Times continue to be tricky for most of us, and thanks to a very small group of local organisers Harrogate Beer Week can once again aim to bring a little bit of joy by pulling our community together and supporting our independent businesses – the lifeblood of our local economy.”
The full 2022 programme is now online, with many events being free to attend and some very special ticketed one-off experiences to get involved with. See www.harrogatebeerweek.co.uk
