Barry Island IPA lands national listing

Barry Island IPA, created in collaboration with Brains and Simon Martin – known to many as You Tube beer reviewer ‘Real Ale Guide’ – goes on sale today (14th November) in Tesco stores throughout the UK.

Simon, more used to reviewing beers, turned brewer after Brains invited the Barry resident to brew a collaboration beer in their new craft brewery earlier this year. The result was Barry Island IPA, an American style India Pale Ale bursting with citrus aromas.

Bill Dobson, head brewer at Brains, said: “Barry Island IPA is an early craft brewery success story. Originally brewed at small volume to supply 30 of our pubs, we’ve since up-scaled the brew to the main plant so we can meet Tesco’s demands.”

Mark Grant, Tesco’s senior buying manager for Wales & West, said: “We’re delighted to be launching the Barry Island IPA in Tesco stores throughout the UK. A fantastic ale that I am sure customers will be delighted with and a great addition to the already great range of Welsh beers on offer from Brains.”

Barry Island IPA is available in a 330ml bottle from selected Tesco stores throughout England and Wales – from Barry to Essex. For a full list of stockists visit www.brainscraftbrewery.com/find-our-beer

Over the past three years Simon has become Europe’s largest craft beer reviewer on YouTube, having reviewed hundreds of beers from all over the world. He said: “I’m a huge Brains fan and was honoured to have been asked to brew with Bill and his team. I never dreamt that my beer would end up on the shelves of supermarkets throughout the UK.”

 TASTING NOTES
Created by Simon Martin, aka Mr Real Ale Guide, this India Pale Ale was inspired by the ‘IPA revolution’ across the pond. The boy from Barry has used a trio of hops from the US in this pale coloured ale, which is bursting with citrus aromas. A unique smooth malt taste upfront is finished off by a vigorous bitterness and a ‘tidy’ clout of citrus and berry hop flavours.
