Bavarian Craft Beer Starnberger Hell Joins Krombacher’s Comprehensive UK Draught Line-Up

Germany’s family owned and operated Krombacher Brewery is helping to bring one of Bavaria’s most exciting craft breweries to a wider audience by launching the Starnberger brand in the UK for the first time.

Delivering a refreshingly modern interpretation of Bavarian beers and their culture, the craft brewery’s core product is an authentically Bavarian speciality lager called Starnberger Hell.

It is available in a 30-litre keg with immediate effect from importer Morgenrot with stylish glassware for an authentic Bavarian serve.

Starnberger Hell joins the Krombacher Drinks UK stable ahead of a busy summer including the European Football Championships in Germany and well in advance of this autumn’s Bavarian Oktoberfest celebrations.

Starnberger Hell will be available for the trade to try at the Northern Restaurant & Bar Show, taking place in Manchester from the 12th– 13th March.

The beer will launch in Manchester’s acclaimed craft beer bar Cask in Castlefields and Ancoats next week and will also feature at the ‘Krombacher Social’ tasting events planned for 2024.  The next social event takes place at The Brewery Tap in Norwich on the 10th April.

Krombacher’s Director for Sales & Marketing in the UK & Ireland, Stephan Kofler, said:

“With growing interest in regional German beer styles, we’re delighted to be offering a 100% authentic taste of Bavaria from one of the region’s hottest breweries ahead of the summer and this year’s Oktoberfest. The addition of Starnberger Hell alongside our Krombacher Pils, Hell, Weizen, Unfiltered Lager and Unfiltered Dark Lager ensures we have the most comprehensive German range in the market at a time when the UK’s thirst for authentic beer styles with real provenance is at an all-time high.”

Starnberger Hell – The classic – 4.8% abv

Brewed according to the German Purity Law with only the finest Bavarian ingredients, Starnberger Hell (4.8% abv) is an easy-drinking, fine-flavoured and refreshing Bavarian lager. At the first sip, it is delicately tart, later revealing wheat notes balanced in harmony with the citrus notes of the hops and the malty aromas of lime honey. Full-bodied with a round taste and a golden shine, Starnberger Hell personifies everything that is good about the best Bavarian beers.

About Starnberger Brewery – good things from Bavaria

Located on and taking its name from the famously idyllic Lake Starnberg in Bavaria, the Starnberger Brewery has helped to create new excitement in Germany’s traditional brewing scene since launching its first beers in 2016.

The Starnberger brewery prides itself on a craft approach to brewing and maturation, where creativity and tradition meet. Only the finest natural, locally sourced ingredients are accepted. This includes pure water from deep wells in the lush surroundings of Lake Starnberg, hops from the Hallertau region and malt from two Bavarian malthouses.

Initially based in Berg, a small village 35km south-west of Bavaria’s capital Munich, the brewery saw stunning growth and in just five years it had outgrown the space.  At the time of its relocation to Feldafing, on the other side of Lake Starnberg in 2020, the brewery began a partnership with the Krombacher Brewery to increase distribution and impact across Germany and in international markets.

The brewery’s range currently includes Starnberger Hell, Starnberger Weisse, and other regional specialties. Addressing beer enthusiasts and craft fans beyond the borders of Bavaria, Starnberger was awarded the highly respected DLG Gold seal for excellent quality for the third time in 2024. Today, Starnberger is available across Germany and following a successful pilot in Italy in 2023, the brand will now expand in various markets across Europe.

Krombacher Brewery

Fiercely independent and family-run, Krombacher has been producing its much-revered beers in harmony with nature in the Krombach Valley since 1803.

Brewing exclusively in the small town of Krombach, nestled in the beautiful Siegerland Hills of Westfalia, central Germany, Krombacher proudly adheres to the German Beer Purity Law of 1516 (Reinheitsgebot). Relying on artistry, experience and above all a passion for purity, Krombacher’s Master Brewers ensure no corners are cut in their pursuit of perfection.

Combining traditional brewing methods with state-of-the art technology, the brewery only uses the finest, 100% natural ingredients. This includes the finest two-row summer barley, Siegel hops from Hallertau and the brewery’s very own specially cultivated Krombacher Pilsner Superioris yeast, which is used in one brew only.

For the precious water, Krombacher beers benefit from the local Felsquellwasser® found in 50 wells within 3km of the brewery. The special water is naturally soft, low in mineral content and is the only water ever used to brew Krombacher beer, providing the beer with its unique, recognisably refreshing, pure and crisp taste.

The market leader in Germany and among the most modern beverage suppliers in Europe, Krombacher beers are now available in more than 50 markets worldwide.

In the UK, the brand has over 300 draught taps now in operation in the On-trade and the beers are widely available in the Off-trade from the likes of Tesco, Morrisons, Majestic, Ocado, Booths, Bargain Booze, Filshill Keystore, Oddbins, Spar (north of England).   It is exclusively distributed by Manchester-based importer Morgenrot.

The Krombacher beers available in the UK include the Pils, Hell, Weizen, Unfiltered Lager, Unfiltered Dark Lager, 0.0% Pils and Non-Alcoholic Weizen. For further information:
