A BBPA spokesperson said: “Brewers and pubs pour billions into the economy and support more than a million jobs but are up against a raft of business costs and punitive tax rates that undermine growth and block investment.
“When we met with Treasury officials, we reiterated the pressing need for reform of the business rates system, which punishes pubs that currently pay five times their relative rate of turnover. Meaningful lower multipliers for pubs are critical as they better incentivise investment.
“The Government rates reform proposals must proceed swiftly and undiluted, and deliver on a Manifesto commitment to truly rebalance the system and support pubs.”
