Bedlam Brewery presents cheque for £1,274 to The Dame Vera Lynn Charitable Trust

Danny Hoskins, Sales Director at Bedlam Brewery, was delighted to present a cheque today on what would have been Dame Vera Lynn’s birthday, to her daughter Virginia and son-in-law Tom, trustees of The Dame Vera Lynn Charitable Trust.

Bedlam, an award winning craft brewery near Ditchling at the foot of the South Downs National Park, released ‘The Dame’, a limited 4.2% ABV amber ale dedicated to the memory of local resident, Dame Vera, the ‘forces sweetheart’, who sadly passed away last year.

As a thank you from the team at Bedlam for Dame Vera’s lifetime of national service, the Brewery pledged to donate 20p from every bottle or pint sold. The brew sold extremely well in the three months following its release and hence the sale of 4,608 pints in cask and 1,765 500ml bottles has enabled the Brewery to present the cheque today.

Danny Hoskins, Sales Director, commented:

“As we said when we released The Dame in October, we were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Dame Vera last year, who leaves so many wonderful memories of the positive messages she portrayed during a dark period in our nation’s history.

We were delighted with how well The Dame was received during these challenging times, as many of our customers took the opportunity to raise a glass in her memory and also to make a small contribution to causes dear to her heart.

I’m even more delighted to be able to present the cheque to Virginia and Tom today standing in a garden of daffodils as we all look forward to more positive times.

So here’s to you Dame Vera, thanks for all the memories you have left us with and on your behalf to all of our customers – keep smiling through.”

Virginia Lewis Jones, Trustee, commented:

“We are thrilled that the beer has been popular and sold so well – and are extremely grateful for Bedlam’s interest and involvement with the Dame Vera Lynn Charitable Trust.  We send a great big thank you for your generous donation.”
