Belhaven Brewery continues to bring out the best with international awards medal haul

Spirits are high at Belhaven Brewery, as the Dunbar-based team win a series of major awards for their beers and visitor experience. Belhaven hit the top spot twice at The 2023 Icons of Beer Awards, winning Visitor Attraction of the Year for the second time in a row, while a delighted Fiona Matheson, Belhaven’s Brand Manager, was named Visitor Attraction Manager of the Year.

Presented by the influential World Beer Awards, the Icons of Beer Awards aim to recognise the people behind the pint, highlighting outstanding achievements from brewers, breweries and brands.

Commenting on her win, Fiona Matheson said: “I’m thrilled to be recognised by The Icons of Beer Awards and especially pleased that we’ve taken home Visitor Attraction of the Year for two consecutive years. Belhaven is the oldest working brewery in Scotland – it’s a very special place for our tours and events. And, of course, our beers are great!

“But it’s the people that really make Belhaven Brewery what it is. My team’s hard work creates a fantastic atmosphere where everyone is welcome and everyone has a good time learning about our heritage and our beer. I’m so proud that their hard work has been recognised.”

To cap their winning streak, Belhaven Brewery also won two International Beer Challenge awards for its brews. Belhaven Scottish Ale was awarded the Bronze Taste Award, while the Belhaven Craft Range picked up a Gold Design and Packaging Award.  The brewery’s much-loved Scottish Ale also scooped silver at this year’s Scottish Beer Awards.

Steven Sturgeon, Head of Marketing at Belhaven said: “What a week of wins!  The International Beer Challenge aims to reward and promote excellent beers from around the world. It’s an internationally recognised quality mark that directs consumers to the very best beers. Competition is stiff, so these awards are brilliant news for our customers and our people here at Belhaven.

“I’m also so happy for Fiona, who’s such a wonderful role model. The Icons of Beer Awards are a pat on the back for the whole visitor team who create a consistently high standard experience for each and every visitor.”

The award wins follow a busy year for Belhaven Brewery, which has also recently launched a fresh look and feel for its top selling Scottish stout Belhaven Black and ale Belhaven Best, in addition to its successful sponsorship of this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
