Belhaven Brewery Tops World Beer Awards in its 300th year

Scotland’s oldest working brewery, Belhaven Brewery has an extra reason to celebrate its 300th birthday this year. Not only is it in the throes of marking this significant milestone with a year long programme of events and celebrations, it has now been named national winner at the 2019 World Beer Awards for its Twisted Grapefruit IPA.

The World Beer Award in the IPA Specialty category follows the win for the Belhaven’s Twisted Grapefruit IPA at the Scottish Beer Awards in 2018 when it was named Scottish Beer of the Year.  The 5.3% abv zingy grapefruit IPA is packed with fresh, juicy flavours. A mouthwatering twist on our award winning Twisted Thistle, it is brewed with 100% Scottish Pale Malt and hopped with Chinook for robust bitterness, resin and grapefruit hop and the Mandarina Bavaria hop for delicious tangerine, orange and grapefruit citrus notes. The brew is further enhanced by the addition of fresh grapefruit, chopped by hand at the brewery, for a satisfying pithy finish.

In addition Twisted Thistle IPA has won bronze in the American IPA category.

Speaking about the award wins Matt Starbuck, managing director said: “What a way to celebrate 300 years of brewing world class beers. We are very proud to win these awards proving that Scotland’s oldest brewery is still at the forefront of brewing innovation.”

On 21st September Belhaven Brewery will be hosting its 300th brewery bash, a celebration of the very best of Scottish music and beer. Featuring household names like Dougie MacLean and Capercaillie alongside innovative new bands like Assynt and Kinnaris Quintet, the festival will be a highlight of the year long celebrations.
