BII sends letter to Chancellor calling for urgent support to safeguard the future of our pubs

BII CEO, Steven Alton has sent a letter to the Chancellor Rishi Sunak, calling for clarity and ongoing financial support for pubs.

As the issue of distance is being discussed urgently, the BII wants to impress upon the Chancellor that whilst a reduction to 1m will help the fortunes of many pubs, it is just the start of the additional support that they will need going forwards.

“It is clear that with distancing measures in place at any level, the majority of pubs will be loss making and many will not open at all.

Pubs are so much more than small businesses. They have the capability to be at the heart of the longer term recovery of our economy. Beyond their economic contribution, they inclusively bring our communities together and are ready to proudly reconnect our society as we move forward together.”
