Brakspear bolsters accommodation at managed pubs – Nine bedrooms added to Marlow site

Brewer and pub operator Brakspear has opened nine new bedrooms at its Chequers managed pub in Marlow, taking to 77 the total number of letting rooms across its managed estate. The move expands Brakspear’s accommodation offer at a time of growing consumer demand for ‘staycations’.

The elegant, high-spec bedrooms offer boutique hotel style accommodation at the characterful 16th century pub, located on Marlow High Street. Brakspear’s in-house design team, who carried out the project, have created rooms with a stylish, contemporary feel and a high level of comfort.

Rooms have been decorated using a sophisticated palette of bright fabrics, bold geometric tiling, modern wallpaper and feature wall paneling. Furnishings and fittings include bespoke reclaimed timber desks, mid-century style chests of drawers and bedside tables, and industrial-style lighting. All rooms have Feather & Black beds and linens, Nespresso machines, flatscreen TVs, and rain showers.

Downstairs, the Chequers has a large bar, a separate ‘Churchill Tap’ alehouse serving a selection of Brakspear and guest ales and two spacious dining rooms with a total of 100 covers. The recently relaunched, seasonally changing menu created by head chef Steven Styles offers affordable dishes with a focus on steaks; quality cuts of 100-day aged beef are cut to size and shape at a Butcher’s Block in the main dining room.

Brakspear chief executive Tom Davies said, “We’re delighted to be adding rooms to the Chequers and are confident it will quickly become popular among overnight and weekend visitors to Marlow.

“Expanding our accommodation offer puts us in a good position to benefit from the growing number of consumers choosing to take a staycation instead of a holiday abroad. And our rooms, offering the comfort and service of a hotel, but in a more informal environment, with a welcoming bar and good, affordable food on site, are increasingly what customers are looking for when booking a mini-break or overnight stay.”

Brakspear now has bedrooms at six of its eight managed pubs. In addition to the Chequers, it invested in refurbishing the 12 rooms at the Townhouse in Stratford-upon-Avon earlier this year.

Brakspear’s managed estate includes: the Chequers; the Town House in Stratford; the award-winning Porch House in Stow-on-the-Wold; the Sheep, also in Stow; George Townhouse in Shipston-on-Stour; Bull on Bell Street in Henley-on-Thames; Running Horses in Mickleham, Surrey and Pocket Watch in Shepherds Bush.
