Winter’s approaching and the days are getting shorter, colder and greyer. So find cheer indoors with a pint of warming ale and some lively tunes in one of the local pubs hosting the Brakspear Jazz & Blues Week, returning for its seventh year.
Running from 8-17 November, the festival features some amazing musicians across the jazz, blues, soul and R&B spectrum, so come tap your toes or get on your feet for this perfect way to banish the November blues!
Around 20 performances are already scheduled, with a lineup of talented musicians including Festival favourites Niall Kelly and Fleur Stevenson as well as new performers such as acoustic guitarist Ebony Rose and jazz quartet Red Hot Rags. Most of the gigs are free to enjoy, though some pubs are putting on special ‘meal and music’ dinners at a fixed price. Brakspear chief executive Tom Davies said, “Live music and pubs are perfect partners and we’re delighted to be running the Jazz & Blues Week for a seventh year. It supports local musicians and gives our customers the chance to see some of the best Jazz & Blues performers around – usually at no additional cost.

Jazz & blues guitarist Jon Walsh is returning to play three times during Jazz & Blues Week after one performance last year. He said: “I really enjoyed playing at the Rising Sun last year; pubs have a relaxed, intimate atmosphere that makes them perfect for live jazz. It’s great that Brakspear puts on this annual festival to raise the profile of jazz and blues music and encourage more people to think about watching live music in the pub.”
Jon is performing his solo acoustic blues at the Six Bells in Warborough on 9 November at 8.00 pm and at the Rising Sun on Witheridge Hill on 16 November from 1.00 – 3.00 pm, and as part of the Stripped Down Jazz Trio at the Catherine Wheel in Goring on 17 November from 6.00 – 9.00 pm.
