Brighton & Hove Beer Week returns next month for a second city-wide annual celebration of beer and brewing. Brighton & Hove Beer Week runs from Friday 23rd August until Sunday 1st September 2019 and will showcase the very best the city has to offer both local and visiting beer lovers.
Throughout the ten days of the festival, the city’s very best beer venues – including Brighton Bierhaus, Curry Leaf Café, The Watchmaker’s Arms and Brighton Beer Dispensary – will put together a programme of beer launches, tours, tap takeovers and unmissable beery events to keep even the most discerning palate happy. Breweries from within the city, across Sussex, and from further afield are also lined up to take part in collaborations, one-off brews and happenings that will highlight the very best things about drinking beer in the city.
There will be no festival wristbands or lanyards, and no central beer tent: just a whole city full of great beer to explore and enjoy. Whether you like your beer with food, music, education, entertainment or just as it comes there is something for everyone.
Brighton and Hove Beer Week’s founder is the current British Beer Writer of the Year and long-term Brighton resident, Emma Inch. She says,
‘The city’s beer scene continues to go from strength to strength and the beer week is a great way to showcase this to both locals and visitors. This is a venue-led event featuring world-class beer served exactly where it should be: in the pubs, bars, restaurants and bottle shops that bring it to you all year round. Beer Weeks are becoming increasingly popular in cities across the UK – including Manchester, London, Norwich and Sheffield – as ways of showcasing and celebrating beer and brewing. This is Brighton & Hove’s second beer week.
Brighton & Hove and the surrounding counties of East and West Sussex are home to more than 60 breweries – some nationally and internationally renowned. A recent study, quoted in Beer Today, found that the microbrewery trade in East Sussex alone had experienced 1500% growth in the previous year. Brighton & Hove itself has a rich history of brewing, and a growing independent, contemporary brewing scene. The number of venues leading on craft beer and real ale has increased sharply in the past three years.
