“At some point, hasn’t everyone wanted to own their own pub? I definitely have and with the micropub movement, you can actually do it and be successful.” – Pixelform Studios Owner, Daniel Eycott

After a few pandemic related setbacks, Kent based production company Pixelform Studios are proud to finally announce the release of their debut documentary, Micropubs – The New Local.

Co-created by Bexley based filmmakers Syd Heather, Daniel Eycott and James Coyne, Micropubs – The New Local follows the story of three entrepreneurial Londoners who decide to open their very own micropubs and revitalise their high streets through a love of real ale and community spirit.

Supported by interviews with industry experts including radical pub campaigner J. Mark Dodds, Brewing in Britain author Ken Smith, sommelier-broadcaster Jaega Wise, and original micropub creator Martyn Hillier, this easy-watch documentary will appeal to both casual viewers and craft ale enthusiasts alike. “None of us set out to make a feature film about micropubs, but we were instantly fascinated by these quirky one-room pubs that champion only the best craft beers.” – Filmmaker & Co-creator, Syd Heather

Following a successful, socially distant premiere at The Gulbenkian in Kent on 12th June, the film is now digitally available to watch via Vimeo-On-Demand.

Due to the ongoing covid restrictions, the filmmakers have adopted a hybrid physical and digital release strategy to make their film as accessible as possible. Alongside Vimeo, the film will screen at “London’s coolest film festival” Crystal Palace International Film Festival in the autumn with more screenings and streaming platforms to be announced over the coming months.

“After the year we’ve all had, a film about community spirit is needed more than ever.” – Filmmaker & Co-creator, James Coyne

“Micropubs – The New Local really gives me a sense of understanding and perspective I’d never thought would fascinate me… really impressive documentary making.” – Daniel K, You Call Yourself A Film Critic

“An excellent, informative and enjoyable film and a real eye-opener as to why so many larger pubs are going to the wall mainly due to greed on the part of developers.” – Rod Harffey, IMDb

“A timely immersive look into a community’s perseverance… the film also feels extremely timely, not only through the eyes of this year’s pandemic with the perseverance of independent communities… where the future is uncertain, fearful of a vanishing way of life and where we’re starting to really think about what we want our country to be, and what community means…” – Xanvier Allison, IMDb

“This pitch-perfect account of the micropub movement is a timely reminder that great  ideas have a life of their own.” – R.J. Harrison, IMDb
