Pasquale and Angelo, founders of Santa Maria, the original Neapolitan pizzeria based in West London with a third site soon to come in central London, today announce an exclusive beer collaboration with Bermondsey-based beer brewery Bianca Road: the Santa Maria Blood Orange IPA, which will be sold at each of the Santa Maria sites from early September.
The Blood Orange IPA is made from Barley, Wheat, Blood Orange, Hope and Yeast and has an ABV of 4.5%. It’s a fruity and refreshing craft IPA, packed with the citrussy juice and zest of blood oranges for a fruity flavour. Reece Wood, of Bianca Road Brewing Co, says of the beer. “We wanted to brew a blood orange India Pale Ale to bring create an explosion of sweet, fruity and fresh flavours to accompany and compliment the pizzas of Santa Maria. The juice addition creates a sweetness in aroma and initial taste, and the zest balances these out with a late bitterness on the tongue.”
Here comes the geeky bit: in addition to the four essential beer ingredients (water, malt, hops and yeast) Bianca Road used blood orange juice and orange zest at the ‘boil’ and ‘fermentation’ stages of the brewing process in order to create a genuine and real orange taste and aroma to the beer. The can is bright and engaging and features the famous ‘Santa Maria’ icon found in the restaurants.
Pasquale and Angelo, who are preparing to open their first central London site in late November, were delighted when they shook hands with Reece and his team of London brewers. They said, “We wanted to work with like-minded entrepreneurs. Bianca Road make incredible beers and their attention to detail is second to none – much like ours. It’s the perfect concoction!”
Reece goes on to say, “Working on this beer with Pasquale and Angelo has to be one of the highlights for my brewery. Santa Maria has established itself as the best pizzeria in London, so to have started a partnership with them is a huge honour for Bianca Road. Santa Maria Blood Orange IPA will be available in all Santa Maria restaurants from early September, priced £XX.
