Dark Star launches its own Foundation

Sussex based brewer Dark Star has launched The Dark Star Foundation – created to ‘Support & Inspire” by working alongside, and helping, good causes.

From March 2013 Dark Star will be raising funds through the sale of certain lines in the brewery shop including a bespoke Dark Star Foundation T Shirt, as well as through donations made by people attending brewery tours which will be offered free of charge in order to encourage giving.  Additionally, the team at Dark Star will be running a series of fundraising events including ‘Spin Up in a Brewery’ – a cycling event to be held in May; HopFest, a three-day beer and music event which will be held in September, as well as a series of other events to be announced in the coming months.

Commenting, James Cuthbertson of Dark Star said: “It’s our intention for The Foundation to work in three key areas:

1. Providing funds to pubs to assist in their fundraising efforts – a recent study from PubAid shows that pubs raise over £106,000,000 for charity each year and we want to help pubs to achieve even more.

2. We’ll provide seed funding for tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, who in-turn will be asked to ‘pay it forward’ when they have their business off the ground – assisting another enterprise.

3. We’ll issue funds to good causes / charities, based on their submissions and subsequent recommendation of the Foundation’s panel, a team of people providing the moral compass.

Adding: “The Foundation is overseen by a passionate board of people with a shared passion for helping improve the fabric of our communities – a passion aligned with the role played by pubs up and down the country”.

The Foundation will officially launch in March 2103 and submissions for funding will be considered from October 2013.
