Dennett joins Robinsons

Gill Dennett (nee Richardson) joins Robinsons Brewery to take up the post of Business Opportunities Development Manager. Taking over from John Lavin, who has recently retired, Gill is the first point of contact for all prospective tenants wishing to invest in a tenancy with Robinsons.

Having worked in the industry for over 25 years, Gill is well qualified for her new role! From a share in a freehold pub in East London to working alongside Mitchells & Butlers, Punch and most recently Marstons, Gill brings with her a wealth of HR, recruitment and training experience for both the managed and tenanted estates. But Gill also knows the importance of a personal touch.

“My approach to business is simple” says Gill. “It’s about finding the right person for the right pub and also being brave enough to say when a person isn’t right for the pub or equally the pub isn’t right for the person. Having spent  a long time in the industry, I understand licensees and their businesses.  I also understand that the industry has changed and continues to change and people’s expectations are different.”

“Despite the rumours, the pub industry is not dead – far from it – it’s developing along with everything else and of all the regional brewers, I couldn’t have come to a better one than Robinsons. They have some fabulous pubs, some brilliant operators and a sense of tradition, which I particularly like. It seems to have been lost in other areas of the trade.  Plus the fact I get to stroke the shire horses. Perfect!”

William Robinson, joint Managing Director at Robinsons, is thrilled to have Gill on board: “2012 has been a great year for Robinsons, with many of our long-term investment plans now coming into fruition, but we are just getting started. Gill will be a key member of our team going forwards in 2013 and beyond and as always our tenants and prospective tenants are at the heart of everything we do.”

Gill’s wasting no time getting started and emphasises that her key focus will be:

1.         To ensure that Robinsons is the brewer of choice for those wishing to invest in a sustainable pub business

2.         To find the right tenants for the opportunities available

3.         To replace the good tenants retiring or moving on with even better ones so that they can carry on the mantle

In order to set Robinsons apart from other brewers and pub operators Gill explains that “we have to be trusted to do what we say we’re going to do. Unfortunately, there is a lot of mistrust in our industry and we have to buck that trend. We will only be successful if we meet and guide our customer expectations and my customers are our existing tenants who are moving on, prospective tenants applying for those pubs and the team of Business Development Managers I work with who rely on me for my support.”

Robinsons has business experts in beer, wine, catering, property, marketing and much much more who are on hand to make sure our tenants have all the support they need. From the culinary connoisseur to the beeroisseur, if you have the right business plan then Robinsons has the perfect pub for you.

Editor’s Notes:

Robinsons Brewery has more than 360 pubs situated within the stunning settings of Cheshire, Derbyshire, Cumbria and Wales.

When Gill Dennett isn’t speaking to applicants, looking at pubs and sussing out the competition, she likes to take to the sea for a spot of scuba diving (Advanced PADI qualified) or to the skies for a bungee jump or two! She’s also undertaking a 10,000 ft skydive in August for charity. When Gill has her feet firmly on solid ground, she is also a dab hand at DIY and landscape gardening.
