Discover the art of good beer branding with Pete Brown

Following the publication of his new book on the art of beer, author Pete Brown has written an exclusive article on the history of beer branding for CAMRA’s Learn & Discover platform.

Pete Brown is an award-winning author, broadcaster, consultant and journalist specialising in food and drink, especially beer, cider and pubs. He is also currently Chair of the British Guild of Beer Writers. His article “The art of good beer branding” investigates the evolution of beer art, design and branding – which is also the focus of his new title Beer By Design, published last week by CAMRA.

Pete, who previously worked in advertising before becoming a writer, says: “Why do we buy the beer we drink? What drives us to make each decision? Does the can art and branding factor into our beer buying habits? I have been researching the answers to these questions in Beer By Design, and I am excited to share a bit about the book with the audience on the Learn & Discover platform too, as an introduction to the topic.

“I write books partly because I am passionate about beer – but mainly because I am fascinated by what makes people tick. Everything I have ever written has, in some sense, sought to explain what makes us who we are, and why. This is very much the spirit of my new book Beer by Design. I hope people are intrigued to read more about the topic over on Learn & Discover and enjoy a glimpse through the fascinating history of beer branding!”

CAMRA’s online learning platform is home to a wealth of exclusive content from writers, educators and experts. New guides, articles, videos and audio pieces are added every week exploring everything there is to know about beer, cider, perry and pubs.

Alex Metcalfe, CAMRA’s Learning & Discovery Manager says: “Pete is a powerhouse in our industry, and I am delighted to share his contributions on the Learn & Discover platform. Beer lovers may not realise just how much beer branding and pump clips contribute to their decision to pick up a particular brew, and it is fantastic to be sharing a topic with our audience that they may not have previously considered.”

All new content on Learn & Discover includes free intros and tasters so visitors to the site can get a feel for the full access enjoyed by CAMRA members, which includes articles on diversity in beer and cider and women and cider, an introduction to Britain’s family brewers, and introductions to beer and cider tasting.

To access member-only content, CAMRA members simply need to sign in at the top of the webpage with their membership number and password. Non-members can join the campaign for just £26.50*/year.
