Discover the history of IPAs and expand your beer terminology at CAMRA

CAMRA has released an article on the history of IPA, developed by award-winning writer Pete Brown, and the third edition of a ‘beer drinker’s dictionary’ on its new Learn & Discover platform, to help members further their beer knowledge.

This week’s resources include:

  • India Pale Ale, a history’, the first connoisseur piece on the L&D platform, written by author, journalist, broadcaster and three-time British Beer Writer of the Year winner Pete Brown. This article will take readers through the colourful past of the IPA.
  • The third part of a ‘beer drinkers’ dictionary’, created by award-winning beer writer, educator, and beer expert for Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch Mark Dredge. His dictionary is the first in a series of resources exploring words, acronyms and references used to talk about our favourite drinks and will help members navigate the dizzying array of terms to describe the production, serving and enjoyment of beer.

Throughout the summer, CAMRA’s online learning platform will be home to new content from writers, educators and experts. There will be new guides, articles, videos and audio content added every week exploring everything there is to know about beer, cider, perry and pubs.

Alex Metcalfe, CAMRA’s Learn & Discover Manager said: “It’s been fantastic to have the likes of Pete Brown and Mark Dredge on board with this pioneering initiative to help our membership learn more about their favourite drinks.

“Mark Dredge is a fount of beer knowledge, and this latest instalment in his dictionary series will continue to expand readers’ vocabularies. We are thrilled to be sharing our first ‘connoisseur’ level article with a history of the IPA, written by Pete Brown to help our members learn more about this fascinating and popular beer style.”

All new content includes free intros and tasters so visitors to the site can get a feel for the full access enjoyed by CAMRA members.
