Earn top ‘pie-points’ this Father’s Day with a delicious Innis & Gunn Chairman Pie from Pieminister

Award-winning independent Scottish Brewer, Innis & Gunn, has teamed up with Pieminister’s Co-Founder and Head Chef Tristan Hogg to bring you a video master-class in pie-making that will earn you top pie-points with Dad this Father’s Day (17th June 2012).  Tristan conjures up a mouth-watering ‘Chairman Pie’ with Innis & Gunn Original Oak Aged Beer (6.6% abv) in a three-minute video now available at: http://www.innisandgunn.com/food-matching.aspx

The Chairman Pie recipe has been adapted by Tristan from Pieminister’s cookbook ‘A Pie for all Seasons (RRP £17.99, available from www.pieminister.co.uk).  Tristan chose to use Innis & Gunn Original in the recipe because of its depth of flavour derived from the lengthy oak maturation it undergoes.  Tristan comments: “I use Innis & Gunn Original to make Chairman Pie because of its delicious toffee and oak flavours that go really nicely with the rich aromatics that you get in the pie from the sticky beef, ginger, fennel and soy sauce.”

So, to earn easy points and impress Dad this Father’s Day…or on any other day of the year, follow this easy recipe and sit back and enjoy it with a chilled glass of Innis & Gunn Original! Or, if you would prefer the easy option, you can pick up Pieminister pies and Innis & Gunn Original (RRP £1.90, 33cl) at Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and independent stockists.

Editor’s notes:

  • Innis & Gunn was first established in 2003 as a joint venture with a leading drinks firm, who had approached Dougal Sharp, then head brewer at Caledonian, to create a beer that would lend the perfect finish to a Cask Ale Reserve whisky.  The beer was too good to throw away so Innis & Gunn (the middle names of Dougal Sharp and his brother Neil) was formed.  Dougal led an MBO in January 2008 and the business is now privately owned.

Since then Innis & Gunn has become Scotland’s leading independent beer company.  Ranked number four in sales volume and value in the Specialty Beer category in the UK off-trade, Innis & Gunn has enjoyed average growth of 56% year on year since its formation. It is now the best-selling British bottled beer in Canada and the number two bottled import ale in Sweden.

  • About Pieminister – Tristan started Pieminister back in 2003 with co-founder Jon Simon.  They felt that the great British public deserved more from a pie than the usual fare on the market. Since opening their first pie and mash shop in Bristol, Jon and Tristan have built the company into an internationally recognised brand, with pies now being sold in major supermarket chains as well as restaurants, pubs, shops, delis, markets and at festivals across the land
