The independent, family-owned Edinburgh Beer Factory is celebrating two top prizes at the 2017 World Beer Awards.
BUNK! Edinburgh Brown has been awarded the title ‘World’s Best American Brown Ale’. It’s the latest experimental brew by the Edinburgh Beer Factory, the first in their new ‘BUNK!’ beer range inspired by the work of the great Scottish icon and artist, Eduardo Paolozzi.
BUNK! Edinburgh Brown is a ‘brewing collage’ in true Paolozzi style: unpasteurised and unfiltered, it combines the sweet UK Brown Ale style – dosed with two American hop varieties (Centennial and Chinook) to up the juicy bitterness – with Edinburgh Ale yeast conveying a silky texture to the brew.
BUNK! Edinburgh Brown features a 5-strong malt bill which includes Crystal and Carafa malts, imparting chocolate and coffee notes, and oats, which adds creaminess and an impressive head retention.
Paolozzi Lager, Edinburgh Beer Factory’s first ever brew, has been once again been awarded the title of UK’s Best Helles/Münchner Lager.
Paolozzi Lager is a full-bodied, un-pasteurised 5.2% abv Helles Lager, brewed using 100% barley malt (Lager Pils and Caramalt), then subtly hopped with two noble hop varieties: Hallertau from Germany, and Saaz from the Czech Republic. After fermentation, the beer is cold-conditioned for a further 5-6 weeks, which allows the flavours to achieve a beautiful balance, characteristic full mouthfeel and smooth, long lasting finish.

Paolozzi Lager was launched in Edinburgh in 2015, and then in London in conjunction with the first exhibition in 40 years to honour Edinburgh-born Eduardo Paolozzi. The ‘Father of Pop Art’ was one of Britain’s most influential post-war artists. The exhibition ran at London’s Whitechapel Gallery from 16th February to 14th May 2017.
Paolozzi Lager is a multi-award-winner: UK Winner at the World Beer Awards 2016 in the Helles/ Münchner category; Silver medalist in the Lager/Pilsner category at the Scottish Beer Awards 2016; and a 3-Star award in the Lager category at The Beer Awards.
In both 2015 and 2016, Paolozzi Lager was a SIBA Regional Winner (Scotland) in the Small Pack Beer Competition, Premium Lager & Pilsners category, and won Bronze at national level this year, alongside a Bronze in the Regional Keg category.
