Ex-Greene King assistant managers open second Hive Pub after £450k investment

Greene King Pub Partners has opened another Hive Pub, taking the total number of Hive Pubs to 43.

The Inn for a Penny in Carlton, Nottingham, has been transformed into a Hive Pub following a £450,000 investment.

It will be operated by franchisees Colin and Sandra Meakin, who also operate The Hayloft in nearby Giltbrook – which was the eleventh Hive Pub Greene King opened. A husband-and-wife team, the pair had in the past worked together as Assistant Managers for Greene King managed hotels.

In line with the Hive Pubs concept, The Inn for a Penny has been transformed throughout with new lighting, furniture, decorations and flooring to create a modern and welcoming environment.

Outside, the garden at the pub has also been fully upgraded with beautiful outdoor garden furniture and enhanced landscaping to make the most of the pub’s beer garden.

Franchisees Colin and Sandra plan to bring some of the initiatives they have done at The Hayloft to The Inn For a Penny, including their ‘warm hub’ offer of free Wi-Fi and a warm space, a soup kitchen for those in need and takeaway Christmas lunches for the festive period.

As a Hive Pub, The Inn For a Penny will provide everything a pub goer could want from their local under one roof. This includes a great range of beers and other drinks, an extensive range of food and a regular programme of live entertainment plus Sky Sports and TNT Sport subscriptions to show all major sporting events.

The beer on offer at the pub ranges from standard and premium lagers, to ciders, stouts and ales – plus a number of craft beers for those looking for something extra special. The pub also serves a range of spirits, wines, soft drinks and alcohol-free options.

The food offer at the pub will include traditional pub classics such as Fish & Chips, Burgers and Pies, as well as sharers and tapas style plates. The pub will have regular offers on including a 2-4-1 Burger Night and special Pizza offer and more.

Aimed at those with experience of running a pub, the Hive Pubs franchise agreement gives licensees a ready to trade pub within a proven branded concept for just £5,000 ingoing cost. Franchisees get a minimum guaranteed income of £20,000 which is paid weekly. They also get a percentage of food and drink sales. In addition, they get a share of the profits in their pub and can earn a bonus on top of this.

Greene King was recently accredited for its franchise pub offer, which includes Hive Pubs, by the British Franchise Association.
