London’s first and only meadery, Peckham-based Gosnells Mead, is hosting a celebration of South East London’s breweries over the August bank holiday weekend by bringing together five local breweries, each producing a unique, barrel-aged brew.
The Bermondsey Beer Mile gets plenty of press, however there is excellent brewing going on across the whole of London from breweries of all ages and sizes. Gosnells Mead feel that their corner of South East London deserves a shout too and have put together ‘South East London Barrel Festival’ to showcase some of the area’s excellent brewing.
The festival is being held at Gosnells meadery in Peckham over the August Bank Holiday weekend where – on both Saturday and Sunday – there will be ticketed sessions for the beer festival as well as food on offer too. The beer (and mead!) is coming from five breweries from SE postcodes who will each be bringing along a unique, individual brew aged in wooden barrels: Brick Brewery (SE15), Gipsy Hill Brewing Company (SE27), Gosnells Mead (SE15), Orbit Beers (SE17), and Villages Brewery (SE8).
Barrels are currently hugely popular in brewing as drinkers appreciate and enjoy the unique and unrepeatable brews that they produce. Founder Tom Gosnell says “There is also a great element of fun involved in brewing with barrel as until the moment that you actually pour it for the first time there is a big uncertainty over what exactly the barrel will have done to its contents. We’re looking forward to see who has got it right!”
The first ever South East London Barrel Festival will be running over Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of the August bank holiday at Gosnells Mead, Unit 2, Print Village, Chadwick Road, Peckham, SE15 4PU.
The four ticketed sessions are:
Saturday: 11:00 – 15:00
Saturday: 16:00 – 20:00
Sunday: 11:00 – 15:00
Sunday: 16:00 – 20:00
Tickets are on sale now and include entry, first drink and a custom event glass.
