Award-Winning Round Corner Brewing Release 4.9% New Zealand Pale Ale.
MELTON MOWBRAY, 2nd June 2023.
Round Corner Brewing have today launched Follow The Green Line, a 4.9% New Zealand Pale Ale.
Follow The Green Line was first launched in 2022 by the brewery and after a successful introduction, the team have brought it back with a slight change to the beer style and ABV.
This lusciously golden and gently hazy pale ale has New Zealand hop varieties Nelson Sauvin, Rakau and Riwaka, which are added liberally to bring citrusy grapefruit, pomelo and gooseberry aromas. The beer has just enough malt sweetness to balance a sublime new world bitterness.
Named after the green line which guides Auckland Airport’s visiting passengers between the New Zealand domestic and international terminals, it’s a trip many at Round Corner Brewing have taken on their way to Wellington, which is somewhat of a second home. While it’s also home to the hops in this pale ale.
Our latest release, Follow The Green Line, is the seventh Market Edition beer of 2023 for Round Corner Brewing, following on from its last release, Beneath The Streets. A Keller Pils which has some delectable noble characteristics with a floral and citrus punch. It’s a beer with exceptional length, forged by a weighty 42 IBU of bitterness.
Follow The Green Line is now available to order from Round Corner Brewing’s webshop in 440ml cans – https://roundcornerbrewing.com/products/follow-the-green-line and will be pouring on draught at their Taproom in Melton Mowbray Market from 5pm today (Friday 2nd June).
Round Corner Brewing’s Head Brewer and Co-Founder, Colin Paige said: “Last year we launched Follow The Green Line for the first time and this year we’ve tweaked the beer slightly to help drive aromatics and drinkability. Last year’s beer was slightly stronger at 5.3% and punchier in bitterness at 40 IBU. This year however we’ve brought it back to 4.9% and to about 34 IBU, although we’ve actually added more hops, but at a time when it’s really going to drive aroma.
“The aromatics in this beer are just lovely and it’s loaded with Nelson Sauvin, Rakau and Riwaka hops. It has a slightly tropical flavour, but also a little bit of frangipani. So, it’s a kind of orange, but floral orange. It has lovely floral and slightly tropical notes which are really delicious and lead you into the beer.
“The beer is light in colour with an approachable amount of bitterness. The malt is a little bit lighter than it was last year and we’ve used an extra pale ale malt. It’s really nice and pale, gently hazy, but a little bit of cara gold malt helps give it a little bit of depth and something for the hops to build on, but without really effecting drinkability too much. With a new lower ABV of 4.9% it’s certainly a much better strength for drinkability on a hot sunny day.”
Round Corner Brewing’s CEO and Co-Founder, Combie Cryan said: “We’re delighted to launch the return of Follow The Green Line, our New Zealand Pale Ale. We first launched this beer in 2022 and it proved really popular with our customers. So, when we announced that it would be making a return in 2023, there was plenty of excitement.
“It’s another beer which has significance to New Zealand, as do many of our beers, not only with the hops we’ve used but also the name. Both Colin (Paige) and I have followed the green line in Auckland Airport many a time, so it has special meaning to us and a sense of excitement when walking it.
“So far, we’ve had a lot of interest in pre-orders from our trade and retail customers, which we’re delighted about. Follow The Green Line will be officially launching in our Taproom today from 5pm (Friday 2nd June) and is also available on our webshop. We’ll be sharing on social media what other venues will be stocking our New Zealand Pale Ale. We hope everyone enjoys this beer as much as we do!”
