Fuller’s reins back the horses

To mark the start of National Cask Ale Week 2012 last Friday, 28th September, London Brewer Fuller Smith & Turner brought its dray horses Griffin & Pride out of retirement to make a special delivery of cask London Pride to The Jolly Farmer in Alton, Hants.

Fuller’s replaced its horse-drawn drays in the early 1900s with steam-powered trucks, but has retained a pair of horses since for appearances at county fairs and other events such as pub openings and town parades.

National Cask Ale Week (www.caskaleweek.co.uk) runs from 28th Sept – 7th Oct with the strapline ‘Only in Britain, Only in Pubs’ and intends to celebrate all that is great about our national drink. Several Fuller’s pubs are also opening up their cellars to customers this Thursday (4th October) so they can see the skill that goes into ensuring a pub’s cask ale is served in tip-top condition.
