Fundraisers smash £300k target as industry leaders support pedalling for pubs at base camp event

Press Release – 25th April 23

Chef Tom Aikens, Alun Cairns MP, Head of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group, Kate Nicholls CEO UK Hospitality, Steve Alton CEO of British Institute of Innkeepers and Emma McClarkin CEO of British Beer and Pub Association and a host of hospitality heavyweights worked up a sweat at the newly refurbished Admiralty in Trafalgar Square this morning, as they kicked-off a static cycle to support the flagship Pedalling for Pubs ride in Sri Lanka, which completed a gruelling 2nd day of cycling today.

Through the incredible effort of fundraisers in both Sri Lanka and back in the UK, organisers have confirmed that total funds raised for industry charities Only A Pavement Away and the Licensed Trade Charity has now passed the mammoth target of £300k.

Led by ride founder Katy Moses, of leading research consultancy KAM, cyclists of the flagship ride set off on Monday, cycling across Sri Lanka from the west to east of the Asian island, covering nearly 500km of mountainous trails and roads over five days.

Created as a collaborative effort by leading industry organisations, as well as The Licensed Trade Charity and Only A Pavement Away themselves, with the purpose of raising vital funds for these two great charities. Alongside KAM, supporting partners and sponsors include Airship/ Toggle, Barclaycard, BII, Fleet Street, Greene King, Lucky Saint, Punch Taverns and Wireless Social.
