Fuller, Smith & Turner P.L.C., the London brewer and premium pub company, has named David and Caroline Beale from The Garibaldi, St Albans as winners of the Master Cellarman of the Year Award 2017.
David and Caroline won this award due to the outstanding quality of beer in their pub. They impressed the judges with the care they put in to their cellar and bar. They joined six other pubs in the final: The Beehive, Wandsworth, The Hydrant, Monument, The Mawson Arms, Chiswick, The Stag, Leighton Buzzard, The White Hart, Harlington and The White Horse, Richmond. These pubs were all visited by Fuller’s judges, Head Brewer, George Young and Manager of The Crystal Palace, Bath and last year’s winner, Kim Rennie.
The Master Cellarman of the Year Award celebrates those pubs in the Fuller’s estate that have consistent, high quality beers. Fuller’s pubs are regularly visited by its Trade Quality Advisors, who score each pub on inspection. The pubs that score 96% across four visits throughout the year are entered in to the running for Master Cellarman of the Year Award. During these thorough quality checks, the Trade Quality Advisors inspect cellar hygiene and dispense equipment. Samples of beer are also analysed to ensure customers are receiving the best quality product possible.
David and Caroline, tenants of The Garibaldi, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have won today. We really do take pride in our pub and our beer and we’ll be even more proud with this trophy displayed behind the bar, for all to see. Our team work hard to maintain the high levels we expect and so we’d like to thank them too.”
Head Brewer, George Young said: “Since becoming Head Brewer in April, I’ve had many new jobs to take on, and judging The Master Cellarman of the Year Award has been one of my favourites. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the finalists of the competition, I really love seeing the hard work put in by our pub teams to ensure our customers consistently receive pints of their favourite Fuller’s beers as they should be. I’m delighted for David and Caroline, they work so hard and it’s paid off for them”.
