Gloucester Joins Cheltenham For Beer Week 2017

After the success of Cheltenham’s first Beer Week in 2016, Gloucester is joining the party to create an even bigger and better celebration of great beer. Cheltenham & Gloucester Beer Week 2017 (CGBW2017) will be an exciting collection of events to be held over a ten-day period, from 15th – 24th September.

2016 saw the successful launch of Cheltenham’s first Beer Week, with 90 events taking place at 30 participating venues across the town, including pubs, clubs, bars, shops and restaurants. The express purpose of the newly expanded Beer Week is to celebrate beer in all its forms – to showcase the booming local brewing industry and the pubs, clubs and venues in which to enjoy great beer.

The call is now going out for any businesses in Cheltenham and Gloucester to come forward and express an interest in creating and hosting an event. Festival Chair, Leigh Norwood, said: “Cheltenham & Gloucester Beer Week 2017 is open to any venue interested in hosting any beer related event which aims to promote, educate and entertain. It could involve collaboration between venues, with outside breweries and beer professionals from many fields. Beer Week aims to celebrate all forms of beer, including cans, bottles, keg and cask, showcasing beers from local to worldwide and all styles and flavours.

“CGBW2017 is free of all ties or affiliation with any group other than ‘beer drinkers’. It aims to encourage involvement from individuals and businesses interested in working with, promoting or learning more about our local beer scene, and in helping develop a strong communal spirit which will secure and elevate Cheltenham and Gloucester as a beer destination.”

Events and Grading

Events in 2016 included mini-beer festivals, ‘meet the brewer’ evenings, tap takeovers, brewery tours, tutored tasting sessions, beer walks, beer and food matching and much more. The 2017 events will be graded Gold, Silver or Bronze, depending on their overall unique qualities and appeal to the drinking public. Gold events will be the most heavily promoted, whilst Bronze events will get a listing on the events calendar website. Events must support the core values, listed on the application form, and should differ from a venue’s routine events.

A full colour programme will be produced for CGBW2017. It will feature maps of Gloucester and Cheltenham, together with transport links, recommended ‘Beer Trails’ and will feature all of the participating venues. Advertising and sponsorship opportunities are available for Beer Week.

Participating venues will need to commit to host at least two events during Beer Week, one of which must be held midweek (Monday-Thursday). There will be an up-front fee in order to cover costs. In return venues will feature in the event programme, and be listed on the website and social media.

Collaboration Beers

Gloucester and Cheltenham breweries are planning to collaborate on at least two unique Beer Week brews, which will be available in a number of packaging formats (keg, cask and cans/bottles).
