Hadrian Border Brewery, the esteemed Newcastle-based brewery known for its classic, traditionally brewed beers, is thrilled to announce the full details of its much-anticipated 30th Birthday Beer Festival. The celebration will take place from Friday 7th June to Sunday 9th June at the brewery’s home on Newburn Industrial Estate, bringing the North East beer community together.
Owners Andy and Shona Burrows, along with the dedicated Hadrian Border team, will host a weekend filled with their award-winning beers, a selection from their favourite breweries, plus delicious street food, live music, and an opportunity to toast to three remarkable decades of brewing excellence.
A large marquee will be set up outside the brewery, featuring a bar that serves a diverse range of cask and keg beers. A convenient token system will be in place for beer purchases, with both cash and card payments accepted for buying tokens. The festival is dog-friendly, with attendees encouraged to bring their furry friends (provided they remain on a short lead). Festival-goers will also receive a commemorative glass as a memento of the event.
Shona Burrows, Co-owner of Hadrian Border Brewery, shared her excitement: “We feel incredibly privileged to have reached this milestone with the support of the people of Newcastle. We try to repay that support with our community engagement through raffle prizes, charity ales, and backing local sports clubs, such as Seaton Burn, Benwell and Wallbottle, and Corbridge cricket clubs. We also have significant relationships with The Blaydon Race and our local CAMRA beer festival. Historically, our first major sponsorship was the Tyne Tunnel 2K Wheelchair Race.”
On Friday, the stage will be graced by King Jeff/Adam Walton and Union Street, setting the tone for a vibrant start to the festivities. Saturday afternoon sees The Good, The Bad & The Chumsy entertaining the crowd, followed by an evening performance from The Lounge Lizards. The festival’s musical journey concludes on Sunday with performances by Miss Mary & The Mr. Rights, leading up to a grand finale by The King Bees.
Hadrian Border’s beer festival will showcase the best of UK beers, focusing on those brewed locally. “The contribution of local breweries to the job market, their communities, and the local economy is immense. We’ll have a variety of beers, including traditional ales and modern hoppy, hazy craft kegs. Many of these beers aren’t usually available in Newcastle, so bringing them together under one marquee is fantastic.”, Shona continued.

About Hadrian Border Brewery
Established on 9th June 1994 when Andy and Shona Burrows took over the Border Brewery Company in Berwick-upon-Tweed, the brewery expanded in 2000 when The Four Rivers Brewery in Byker (previously known as Hadrian Brewery) went into liquidation, and the decision was made to relocate to this site and change the name to Hadrian and Border.
With further expansion needed, a new home was identified in April 2009 in the former Ross’s pickle factory in Newburn, west of the city. The purchase was completed that September and the extensive refit began, with the first brew mashed in during April 2011.
The current production capacity is 200 barrels per week, and in 2014 the team achieved the SALSA (safe and local supplier approval) accreditation, passing the SALSA+ beer audit in the following year, making Hadrian Border the first brewery in the North of England to achieve this accolade.
With a strong focus on quality cask beer, they also now produce keg beers, plus bottles and cans. The award-winning core range of beers can be enjoyed all year round and includes favourites such as Tyneside Blonde, Grainger Ale, Farne Island, Northern Pale and Northern IPA.
The brewery’s pub, Station East, opened in November 2016 and is located in Gateshead’s Railway Quarter.
