Harbour Brewing Co opens for business

A new Cornish craft brewery officially opened its doors for business on Friday 20 January.

The Harbour Brewing Co are now taking their first orders after North Cornwall MP Dan Rogerson cut the ribbon at their Kirland, Bodmin premises on Friday.

Dan, who is also the Vice Chair of the Parliamentary Beer Group, said at the launch: “People are really interested now in beers and craft beers. We have that talent here in Cornwall, and already have some established businesses. There is a whole community of breweries now that are showing what Cornwall is about and what it can achieve.

“I have every confidence that Harbour Brewing Company is a business that will grow and create jobs for local people, as other breweries have in the area. They are already using Cornish barley and are developing ties with other local services.”

Friends Eddie Lofthouse and brewer Rhys Powell made their dream a reality by setting up the Harbour Brewing Co in 2011, with the ambition to create contemporary beers that deliver an uncompromising taste, taking inspiration from the American brewing scene.

The facility boasts an American-designed, Hungarian-built steam fuelled brewing system which Mr Lofthouse says is more efficient than a traditional British set up. Each brew produces 2,816 pints and they aim to be producing 6,000 kegs by the end of this year.

The Harbour Brewing Co will produce a core range of four beers, available in both cask and bottle, with limited edition speciality beers for their Harbour Specials range.

Notes to Editor
The Harbour Brewing Co was started in 2011 by Brewer Rhys Powell and Eddie Lofthouse who share a passion for beer and surfing, both with the dream of opening their own brewery. In early 2011 the pair took their dream further and starting from scratch took the opportunity and installed a 10 British Brewers Barrels (bbl) system, to create a range of full flavoured, balanced and creative beers. The brewery opened in January 2012.
