Hook Norton Brewery “Next delivery of Hooky for Houses of Parliament boss …?”

Hook Norton’s Hooky Beer appeared in an unfamiliar location on Monday night, the Houses of Parliament. The Oxfordshire brewery were responsible for setting up and running a bar at an event for members of both Houses organised by the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA). The BBPA invited MPs from all across the Midlands as well as key members of the House of Lords, including former South Northamptonshire MP, Tim (now Lord) Boswell to both understand the roles breweries and pubs play in the economies of their constituencies as well as to sample some excellent beers from across the Midlands.

Hooky Operations Manager, Bruce Benyon (who along with Drayman Tristan Watkins both set up and ran the bar) confessed to thoroughly enjoying what was a long day.

“As we were bringing beer into the Houses of Parliament from Hook Norton, we had to go through some rigorous security checks. Notwithstanding the current climate, a chap called Guy Fawkes tried to bring some barrels into Parliament some time ago and there was absolutely no beer in them. After setting the bar up we were able to talk to the MPs and Lords at length both about the beers we were offering as well as getting across to them the massive tax burden borne by pubs and breweries as well as the fact that pubs employ many people in their constituencies, including giving many young people their first taste of paid employment. I hope they were able to take on board the points we tried to get across to them. It was also great to get really positive feedback on the quality of the Hooky we were serving, and I would like to think there was a cross party majority in favour of our beer, even without a formal vote!”

The picture shows Brigid Simmonds, Chief Executive of the BBPA behind the bar at the reception getting to grips with the Hook Norton Beer Hooky.
