Iconic New York Brewery Paints Brixton with Beer

London Suburb Plays Host to First Ever Pilsner-Infused Street Art.

Brixton in South London will see the creation of the first ever mural painted with beer, this summer, as globally renowned NYC artist Danielle Mastrion is invited to paint street art that celebrates diversity, inclusivity, and creativity, onto the bricks of Brixton.

Commissioned to launch Brooklyn Pilsner, Mastrion’s work will use paint infused with the new brew to transport locals to the New York borough of Brooklyn, which is officially twinned with the London Borough of Lambeth, of which Brixton is a part.

In bringing Brooklyn to Brixton, Mastrion will curate a taste of the neighbourhood she grew up in, which like Brixton, proudly fosters communities of culturally curious changemakers who inspire others and drive social progress, often through creative action.

A classically trained painter and muralist who self-taught her work in aerosol, Danielle Mastrion is also a socially conscious artist, recognised globally for advocating for social justice issues.

Some of her most iconic art includes commissions for major brands such as New Balance and Nike, a makeover of Spike Lee’s production offices, and her infamous large-scale portrait of The Notorious B.I.G. commissioned by the family.

As part of the Brixton project, Mastrion and Brooklyn Brewery are also asking the community to contribute to the mural at a blank canvas event on Saturday 27th of August, by picking up a stencil and paintbrush, and under Danielle’s expert guidance, can add their touch of Brooklyn-inspired art to the wall.

Having the opportunity to bring my expression of Brooklyn to the UK is a total dream come true, and when I was asked about creating the first ever mural painted with beer, I knew this was going to be a fun project,” says Danielle Mastrion, Brooklyn born and bred street artist.

Brooklyn Brewery’s values are intrinsically tied to the communities in which it finds inspirationIn this sense, there is huge synergy between our creative philosophies, as I bring Brooklyn and its people with me when I’m painting, no matter where I am in the world. It’s about giving back to the communities that inspire you,” adds Mastrion.

Olivia Rawlinson, UK Brand Manager for Brooklyn Brewery, says: “Like the incredible work of Danielle Mastrion, Brooklyn Brewery’s ultimate mission, alongside brewing world-class and flavourful beer, is to encourage creative progress at a grassroots level among vibrant people and emerging talent.”

“With the help of Danielle, we wanted to showcase these community values in a place that also truly represents these as a celebration of our new Brooklyn Pilsner.”

Ends

From August 22nd until August 26th, Danielle Mastrion will transform 500 Brixton Road into an ode to Brooklyn and celebration of diversity, inclusivity and creativity using paint infused with Brooklyn Brewery’s newly launched Pilsner. Those aged 25+ can swing by on August 27th between 12pm and 3pm to add their touch to the canvas.
