Joule’s Brewery is delighted to share the news of our recent acquisition: The New Inn in Harborne, Birmingham. This marks a significant milestone for us as we expand our presence in this vibrant city. Hailing from Market Drayton, Shropshire, Joule’s Brewery has established a reputation for crafting exceptional beers, all brewed with the pure waters of Shropshire.
Starting May 22nd, patrons at The New Inn can enjoy our extensive selection of beers on tap, featuring our flagship English Craft Lager, Green Monkey. This beloved brew has become a favourite across all 42 of our Taphouses, including several nearby Joule’s establishments: the Crown Inn in Codsall, The Duke of York in Lichfield, and the Boldmere Tap in Sutton Coldfield.
We extend a warm invitation to join the New Inn’s landlords, Adrian and Bernadette, from Wednesday 22nd May onwards, as we toast to this new chapter. The pub will be closed on Monday and Tuesday for preparations before reopening on Wednesday, ready to welcome guests as usual.
Nestled in the heart of Harborne, The New Inn holds a cherished place in the local community. Known for its lively ambiance and events, such as live music acts and quizzes, it’s a venue close to many hearts. We are deeply honoured to become stewards of this beloved establishment and are committed to upholding its traditions. As a small Shropshire brewery, this is a significant step for us. We are excited to announce that The New Inn will be twinned with our Red Lion JQ site, which has received overwhelming positive support for our beers.
Reflecting on this exciting venture, Vicky Colclough, Joule’s Managing Director, shares her sentiments, “We are delighted to add the New Inn Harborne into our estate, it’s a pub we have admired for many years. Bringing Joule’s beer to Harborne is a milestone for the Brewery, we look forward to working to understand the future Taphouse and how we can invest to make it even more special’.
Welcoming The New Inn into the estate of Taphouses across Staffordshire, Shropshire, Cheshire, and Wales, is an exciting next step for the Brewery’s history.
Anna Brakel, Joule’s Development Director, underscores our dedication to responsible stewardship, stating, “We understand the importance of patience, community engagement, and preserving The New Inn’s unique spirit before implementing any significant changes. Our priority is to honour its heritage and uncover its hidden treasures. So don’t expect major alterations just yet—we’re keen to immerse ourselves in the pub’s atmosphere first.”
Our philosophy revolves around respecting the legacy of each pub we acquire. Just as we’ve successfully done with the Henry Tudor Inn in Shrewsbury, we approach The New Inn with a profound sense of duty to maintain its character and allure.
In the coming months, our team will collaborate closely with the local community to ensure that The New Inn remains a vibrant hub. We eagerly anticipate introducing our range of Joule’s beers, brewed with the same dedication and craftsmanship that has defined our brewery for generations. From our renowned English Craft Lager Green Monkey to our distinctive ales, we’re excited to offer customers a diverse selection of top-quality beers to enjoy.
We are genuinely thrilled about the possibilities that await us and are honoured to become part of life in Harborne. While we acknowledge the challenges ahead, we are eager to showcase our commitment by investing in The New Inn and making it an even greater asset to the community.
Matt Phillips of Matt Phillips Surveyors, who facilitated the acquisition, shares our vision for The New Inn and echoes our commitment to its long-term prosperity.
As we embark on this journey, we invite you to join us on our website and social media platforms as we script the next chapter of The New Inn’s story. We are immensely grateful for the warm embrace from the Birmingham community and look forward to serving you a fresh pint of Joule’s soon!
