Krombacher Signs Up to The Thinking Drinkers Pub Quiz Tour

Leading premium German beer brand Krombacher has teamed up with award-winning alcohol experts, comedians and drinks historians Tom Sandham and Ben McFarland – The Thinking Drinkers -to support their upcoming ‘Pub Quiz’ tour around the UK.

Beginning at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on August 5, the Thinking Drinkers Pub Quiz tour will then visit a further 16 venues across the UK with every audience member receiving five free discerning alcoholic drinks, laughter and learning.

The ideal aperitif to any night out, this unique and interactive imbibing experience shakes up the iconic British pub quiz with theatre-goers battling head-to-head, while enjoying a cold Krombacher Pils and a selection of high-quality liquors.

Continuing to raise drinking standards with their ‘Drink Better, Drink Less’ mantra, Ben and Tom lead the audience on a hilarious exploration of alcohol’s influence on every aspect of humanity – from geography and language to history, religion, music and film.

The Thinking Drinkers have been broadening the nation’s booze horizons as critically acclaimed writers, podcasters and comedians for more than a decade and their shows continue to sell-out across the UK.

Stephan Kofler, Krombacher’s Director for Sales & Marketing in the UK & Ireland, commented:

“There’s no one like the Thinking Drinkers and I have been a huge fan for years so it’s amazing to support and use their sell-out shows to drive trial, reach and social media content for Krombacher in the coming year. Their new ‘Pub Quiz’ is both hugely funny and educational, so we can’t wait for those who haven’t tried a Krombacher Pils yet to discover the natural taste of our beer along with its unique story.”

One half of the Thinking Drinkers, Tom Sandham, said:

“If we’re going to taste a beer with more than 10,000 people this year, then we want to make sure it’s quality, and Krombacher Pils is exactly that. We need to remind people that, when made properly, lager is a magnificent style of beer, so we needed an example that tastes lovely and can educate in equal measure. At the Krombacher Brewery they combine incredible heritage with cutting edge skills, and provenance with natural ingredients, so it’s drinkable, but still has character, making it a great fit for our tour. We’re looking forward to adding it to the show and will enjoy it while also talking about the mating ritual of the Polyommatus Icarus buttefly, which takes some doing.”

Krombacher Brewery

Fiercely independent, family-run and with a deep respect for nature, Krombacher has been producing its high-class beers exclusively in the small town of Krombach, nestling in the beautiful Siegerland Hills of Westfalia, central Germany, since 1803.

Adhering to the German Beer Purity Law of 1516 (Reinheitsgebot) but relying on artistry, experience and above all passion, Krombacher’s 55 Master Brewers ensure no corners are cut in their pursuit of perfection.

Combining time-consuming methods of the traditional German brewers with state-of-the art technology, the brewery only uses the best, 100% natural and wholesome ingredients. This includes the finest two-row summer barley, Siegel hops from Hallertau and the brewery’s own specially cultivated Krombacher Pilsner Superioris yeast, which is used in one brew only.

For the precious water, Krombacher beers benefit from the local Felsquellwasser® found in 48 wells within 3km of the brewery. The special water is naturally soft and low in mineral content and is the only water ever used to brew Krombacher beer, providing the beer with its unique, recognisably refreshing, pure and crisp taste.

The Krombacher beers are now available through Co-op, Booths, Bargain Booze, Filshill Keystore, Majestic, Morrisons, Ocado, Oddbins, Spar (north of England) and Tesco.
