Lager, diversity and the darker side of summer at Imbibe Live 2018

Imbibe Live Show returns next month.  All Guild members are invited to attend and should use code IMBLI60 to access free entry to the show, which is this year introducing a £10 ticket fee.

Beer Writer of the Year Adrian Tierney-Jones and renowned fellow writer Pete Brown head up a talented roster of beer experts and commentators at this year’s Imbibe Live show, heading to London Olympia on 2 – 3 July.

Tierney-Jones will turn convention on its head, showing how dark beers really should be the choice for summer. Brown joins with Drinks Maven Jess Mason to celebrate diversity at the bar and explore ‘how to sell beer to anybody’. Fermentation Radio’s Emma Inch tackles the ‘Free From’ sector, and Cave Direct’s Jonny Garrett explores barrel fermentation and ageing, covering the questions you need to know to ensure quality in your bar. Guild of Beer Sommeliers founder Jonny Tyson heads to The Academy with the Cicerone’s take on the latest beer trends, from haze to sessionable lagers.

Beer Ambassador Mitch Adams keeps order when the Lager Challenge kicks off proceedings on Monday 2 July as five brewers pitch for the audience vote. BeerBelle Annabel Smith returns with Educator of the Year Gabe Cook and Pete Brown to ensure all’s fair in The Tapsters battle for the nation’s best beer and cider bar team on 3 July.

For those on a street food blitz, beer sommelier Ed Hughes shares his top beer matches. And if the beer / cider crossover has got you intrigued, Cider Ambassador Tom Oliver, whose collaborations include most recently one with Burning Sky, The Kernel and Mills Brewing, will be tackling mixed fermentation in Serpents in a Burning Sky.

Meanwhile dozens of brewers and 100s of beers will be present on the show floor.

Far-reaching selections from Duvel, Carlsberg and SIBA/CAMRA Champion Brewer Loch Lomond appear, alongside return trips from North Carolina and Yeastie Boys, plus Lervig’s new House Party Session IPA will be making its trade show debut. SIBA’s Independent Craft Brewers, Brewery Tap opens for business alongside the Hop & Apple Bar.

Other highlights include Brooklyn’s Naranjito, Vedett’s new Session IPA, Redchurch’s Paradise Pale Ale, Brazil’s Londrina Golden Passion, Little Valley’s Cherry Saison, and – of course – the return of the Hofmeister bear.

So, to taste some of the best beers around, to hear from the leaders in the field, to unearth the nation’s best lager and to crown the country’s best bar team, come on down!

A £10 charge has been introduced this year for tickets to Imbibe Live. This is to allow Imbibe to ensure that the quality of its show audience, as well as the technology and food offering are of the highest possible standards. Money from ticket sales will be mostly spent on a new, improved, street-food offering with affordable options for attendees.

Imbibe Live enters its ninth year in 2018 as the annual exhibition for anyone who sources, buys or serves drinks in the licensed on-trade. It takes place on 2 and 3 July at Olympia London, and almost all the stands are already booked. Last year was the largest show to date, with 12,000 drinks professionals in attendance. And, 2018 will see on-trade companies take over the upstairs of the hall, showcasing more products at the event than ever before.

Launched in March 2007, Imbibe magazine has rapidly become the UK’s leading publication for on-trade drinks professionals working in premium UK establishments. Imbibe is an ABC-audited magazine with 20,000 drinks buyers and servers in the UK receiving the quarterly magazine. Copies are available upon request.
