Between 8th and 9th November, in Poznan, Poland, professional judges will choose the best beers and ciders in the first ever Greater Poland” Beer Cup. The contest is organized by Poznań Beer Expo (Poznańskie Targi Piwne). All breweries and cider mills from around the world can participate. Applications can be sent until 31st October 2019.
Beer and cider markets are different in each country. Yet they are still growing, especially in the artisan’s segment. Craft beer is everywhere now, and it is hard to choose from hundreds of options. In Poland for example, from 2011 when the beer revolution started with one beer. Now there are over 400 microbreweries producing beers in many different styles.
„Greater Poland” Beer Cup was found to answer the need for impartial assessment of craft quality by experienced judges. Beer lovers can discover a wide range of traditional and new wave beer styles. Their number appears to be limited only by the creators’ creativity. Competition’s judges will test each participating beer according to BJCP standards. From the winners in each category, they will choose the best Beer and best Cider of the contest.
„Greater Poland” Beer Cup judges are trained by Polish Homebrewers Association (PSPD) and Beer Judge Certification Program. They will assess beers in 27 categories choosing the top 3 places in each category. The best beer and cider chosen from the winners will get „The Greatest Beer” and „The Greatest Cider” title.
The heads of the jury are:
Przemysław Iwanek – an experienced judge, associated with beer and cider industries for years. He shares his knowledge at training and events he organizes. He is an active promoter of the cider industry. Nowadays, also through independent production under the Cydr Pełnia brand.
Mateusz Pluślecki – vice president of Polish Homebrewers Association (PSPD). He is an organizer and head of the jury in the biggest Polish competitions for home brewers such as Polish Homebrewers Championships and Warszawski Konkurs Piw Domowych (Warsaw Competition of Homebrewers). He is also a co-organizer of Festival of Homebrewers.
Results will be announced during the final gala at the Poznań Beer Expo on November 15, 2019.

Awards: 81 title awards, 3 in each category. The main award for the best beer and cider in competition. The winners will be decorated with gold, silver and bronze medals. Main winners will get The Greatest Beer and The Greatest Cider titles. Total value prizes for The Greatest Beer is 15 000 PLN (about 3600 EUR). It consist of free expo space on Poznań Beer Expo 2020 with professional booth construction by ABYSS s.c.
