Leading brewer plans to open craft beer bar in Millom

LEADING brewer Hardknott is continuing its mission to open people’s eyes to the world of craft beer by opening a bar serving its own award-winning creations alongside exciting drinks from the UK and abroad.

The brewery, which is based in Millom, Cumbria, hopes to have the new bar – named Hardknott OnTrack – opening in the town by Easter.

Dave Bailey, who runs the brewery with his partner Ann Wedgwood, has taken over the lease of the Trackside Tea Rooms on the platform of Millom train station.

Hardknott has applied for a licence to serve alcohol at the premises, which it plans to open as a venue where people can enjoy some of the best beers, wines and spirits available. Work is already under way to redecorate the building.

Mr Bailey said: “Anyone who has tried our beers will already know that we like to challenge people’s preconceptions about what beer should look and taste like. We produce beers that really surprise people with new flavours and innovative brewing techniques.

“I know that there are loads of people out there who feel just the same as me and want to try new beers, experiment with the world of flavours available and feel excited about drinking something that is much, much more than ‘just another beer’.

“The aim of our new bar is to create a vibrant, comfortable, contemporary place where  people can enjoy not only our beers, but the best in craft beers, wines and spirits from the region, Britain and across the world. One of the great pleasures of my job is getting to try out the vast range there is on offer and I want to help other people enjoy this too.

“This bar will be a destination not only for local people from Millom and the surrounding area, but also for people from across Cumbria and further afield. Obviously the bar is right on the train station platform and so it is perfectly placed for people to be able to take a train ride through the countryside and enjoy a few distinctive drinks of their choice.

“The premises will be given a makeover to create a colourful, comfortable and fresh bar where people can unwind, take their time over a glass of something special and socialise. We are looking forward to creating something new for Millom that will attract people to the town and become a favourite destination for the locals.”
