Learn how to make beer and cider at CAMRA

CAMRA has launched new tutorials on its Learn & Discover platform, which includes the first instalment in a series on the creation of cider, and the second in a four-part audio series on the key ingredients of beer.

CAMRA members can now learn:

  • ‘How cider is made: I – fruits and orchards’: In this first instalment of a series on how cider is made, writer, broadcaster and educator Gabe Cook – a.k.a. ‘the Ciderologist’ – takes us on a short tour of the traditional cider-producing regions in the UK. Gabe profiles the fruit grown in each region and guides readers through the features and characteristics that cider apples and perry pears lend to the drinks.
  • ‘What’s in your glass?’ part 2 – malt: Part two in a series of four audio guides that investigates the four key ingredients of beer. Award-winning beer writer and broadcaster Emma Inch takes a closer look at malt. This instalment features interviews with Crisp Malt’s Craft Brewing and Distilling Manager for Scotland Colin Johnston, founder and brewer at the Cheshire Brewhouse Shane Swindells and award-winning drinks educator, writer, broadcaster and certified beer sommelier Jane Peyton.

Throughout the summer, CAMRA’s online learning platform will be home to new content from writers, educators and experts. There will be new guides, articles, videos and audio content added every week exploring everything there is to know about beer, cider, perry and pubs.

Alex Metcalfe, CAMRA’s Learn & Discover Manager said: “We are very excited to launch these new instalments in two exciting series on the Learn & Discover platform.

“It’s been brilliant to have Emma Inch on board – having educated us about hops in part one, the second part in this audio guide will be teaching listeners more about malt. Meanwhile, Gabe Cook’s fantastic series will be celebrating cider and perry heritage in the UK, the fruit profiles of British cider apples and perry pears and how the drinks are made.”

All new content includes free intros and tasters so visitors to the site can get a feel for the full access enjoyed by CAMRA members. To access member-only content, CAMRA members simply need to sign in at the top of the webpage with their membership number and password. Non-members can join the campaign for just £26.50*/year.
