Licence Trade Charity & Phantom Brewing co collaborate on charity beer, ‘A Little TLC’ pale ale

The Licensed Trade Charity (LTC), the industry charity supporting drinks professionals in need of emotional support, specialist advice and financial assistance, has partnered with Reading-based craft brewery, Phantom Brewing Co, on the launch of a limited-edition charity beer, A Little TLC (Pale, 5%).

Named in support of the Licensed Trade Charity’s current campaign ‘Because Everyone Needs a Little TLC’, the charity beer is a hazy pale brewed with Vista, Sabro and Citra hops, giving notes of zesty citrus, juicy peach and soft coconut.

It is estimated that around 250,000 people working in the licensed trade need support at any one time, the launch of A Little TLC will help the charity in raising greater awareness of the assistance it offers and who can access it, encouraging even more people working in the licensed trade to reach out if they’re facing difficult times.

Phantom Brewing Co’s A Little TLC will be available in can and keg from October, sold in the Phantom Brewing Co’s taproom, online and in select independent beer shops and venues. Phantom Brewing Co will also be promoting A Little TLC Pale and its partnership with the LTC, through the brewery’s monthly charity initiative in November, which will see 10% of all profit from the brewery’s bars, from 16-19 November, donated to the Licensed Trade Charity.

Paula Smith, Head of Marketing at the Licensed Trade Charity, said “The team at Phantom Brewing Co and the LTC share a passion for great beer and the people who make, serve and sell it, so it has been fantastic that we’ve been able to collaborate on what is an absolutely delicious pale ale!

It’s a tough time for many working in the licensed trade, but with the ongoing support of amazing businesses like Phantom Brewing Co, we can continue to provide critical support to those in the industry that need it.”

Phantom Brewing Co said “Through our charity initiatives, we look to support really important causes each month, it’s a project that both our staff and customers are highly invested in. However, I’m not sure we’ve ever supported a charity so close to home. Working in the drinks profession, it’s important that we’re able to fundraise for a charity that does so much good, for the industry we love. We hope that A Little TLC will allow the Licensed Trade Charity to care for even more people in the industry, in their time of need.”

The LTC has been helping individuals in need from across the licensed hospitality sector since 1793. Today, the charity assists more people than ever with practical, emotional and financial support, in addition to running three successful independent schools.

About the Licensed Trade Charity

Founded in 1793, the Licensed Trade Charity has been helping drinks people for over 200 years, however, the work the charity does for the industry has never been more important. Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, LTC has supported 155k people facing a crisis with practical, emotional and financial support. However, the charity’s ambition going into 2023 is to spread the word even further about the grants and services it can provide so that it can help even more people in need across the drinks trade.

Central to the Licensed Trade Charity’s service is its invaluable 24-hour free helpline that is there day and night to give people the support they need, whenever they need it. Many reach out to the LTC helpline for support with their mental wellbeing, with the charity providing practical guidance and emotional support. However, the helpline and website are vital first steps, allowing the Licensed Trade Charity to assess the care needed for its users. Many of its beneficiaries come first through the helpline and then speak to a specialist support team or trained counsellors for support in all areas of social, mental wellbeing and financial aid who will provide help on a confidential basis.

The spectrum of support drinks people can receive from the Licensed Trade Charity is vast, it really is a one stop shop, covering everything from employment advice to one off grants up to £5,000 that might go towards helping with rent arrears, having a new washing machine fitted or providing new school uniform for children. Of course, the level of support industry professionals can receive is dependent upon length of service and grants are means tested but all resources are completely free. The charity even runs three fully funded independent schools, providing education to many children from the sector. Through its bank of specialists and dedicated staff, the Licensed Trade Charity is perfectly positioned to stop an issue turning into a crisis.
