Waltham Forest’s residents are the first in the UK to be able to order fresh draught beer to their door from the borough’s celebrated craft breweries, thanks to a new growler subscription club launching in the local area.
Draught Drop is the UK’s first growler subscription club and it launches with a simple ambition; to bring draught beer straight from craft breweries to the doorsteps of residents in the community. The club has been set up by beer loving husband and wife duo Mellanie and Tom Struthers who live in Walthamstow.
Customers of Draught Drop can look forward to having fresh draught beer delivered to their door from a line-up of Waltham Forest’s best craft breweries. Each week a new refreshing beer is on tap from breweries including East London Brewing Company, Gravity Well Brewing Company, Neckstamper Brewing, Pretty Decent Beer Co., Exale Brewing, Pillars Brewery and Wild Card Brewery.
Cofounder Mellanie Struthers said, “We’re passionate about three things at Draught Drop: great quality craft beer, supporting our local community and protecting the environment. That’s why we only sell fresh beer on draught, and source it from local independent breweries that produce high quality beer. Our growlers are filled straight from kegs, both of which are completely reusable and all our beer is delivered emission free on electric bikes. So, you can enjoy great craft beer in the knowledge that you’re doing your bit to support local breweries and the environment.”
Cofounder, Tom Struthers, said, “We wanted to enjoy pub quality beer from home and sample the full range of craft beers on offer across Waltham Forest. Nothing existed, so we decided to create a service that we would want to subscribe to.”
“In recent weeks, we’ve been hard at work to ensure Draught Drop can be run safely in accordance with COVID-19 government guidelines. We’re pleased we’ve found a way and are able to support our local breweries at a time when they need it the most.
How does it work?
Think of Draught Drop as your local milk delivery, but for beer. Each week a different beer from Draught Drop’s brewery partners in Waltham Forest is “on tap”. This is delivered to customers on Friday night, ready for the weekend ahead. All customers need to do is rinse their growler when they’re done and switch it for a freshly filled one the following week.
Draught Drop currently offers a light beer subscription which includes a selection of pale ales, IPA’s and lagers. The beer in focus will be revealed a week ahead of delivery.
If a particular beer isn’t for you, you can pause or cancel your subscription at any time.
What’s on tap?
Draught Drop is currently working with eight craft breweries across Waltham Forest including East London Brewing Company, Gravity Well Brewing Company, Neckstamper Brewing, Pretty Decent Beer Co., Exale Brewing, Pillars Brewery, Signature Brewery and Wild Card Brewery.
They also have plans to extend the service to further customers and breweries in Hackney and Tottenham.
What does it cost?
It costs just over £5 per pint (excluding delivery).
Each growler holds 3.3pints of beer and costs £17 per drop.
Delivery from their eco-friendly (and also generally quite friendly) local couriers costs £3.99 and they are looking to offer a free click and collect service in future too.
For a limited time, they are gifting all new customers a branded growler for free. (usually there would be a deposit, which is fully refundable if you return it).
