In his lecture, Professor Bamforth will explore whether moderate beer drinking is good for your health.  Charlie is one of the world’s leading academic authorities on beer.  A Lancastrian, he has worked in brewing for over 30 years.  Formally Research Manager with Bass Brewers and Deputy Director General of Brewing Research International he moved to the University of California, Davis to be Professor of Malting and Brewing Science in 1999.  In 2012 he was elected Deputy President of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling and will become President for a two year stint in 2014.  He has appeared regularly in the media from the BBC, Discovery Channel, New Scientist, San Francisco Chronicle and Los Angeles Times to Playboy.  He is the author of innumerable papers and many books including “Beer: Health and Nutrition”.  He has also written extensively on football which he has now learned to call soccer in deference to his adopted homeland.
