Ludo in the Limelight

Bohem Brewery creates new Lime Lager for The Sutton Arms

North London’s Bohem Brewery has brewed an authentic lime-flavoured lager for the Sutton Arms in EC1, one of London’s most acclaimed craft beer pubs.

The new collaboration beer, called Ludo, is a 4% ABV Czech-style lager, brewed with natural lime extract. Inspired by the citrus character of a classic margarita cocktail, it delivers on both refreshment and flavour.

The beer is named after the dog owned by Sutton Arms licensee Jack Duignan, who was in turn named after former West Ham and Czech international goalkeeper Luděk Mikloško, nicknamed Ludo by fans.

Jack said: “Ludo is used to hearing his name called in the pub, but hopefully he won’t get too confused when customers start asking for a pint of Ludo at the bar. We’re delighted to have worked with our friends at Bohem Brewery to create a distinctive new beer that adds to the choice we offer London’s beer lovers.”

Beer writer Glynn Davis says of Ludo’s flavour: “The immediate hit of zesty summer limes on the nose leads to a refreshing fruit character that punches through a supportive malty backbone. Hints of saltiness and subtle hops contribute some acidity that demand you take another sip.”

Bohem brewer Jan Svatek added: “Fruit beers have a long history in Czech brewing, and it’s been great to partner with the team at the Sutton Arms to create our Lime Lager, a beer with far more depth and character than a standard British lager-and-lime.”

Like all Bohem Brewery beers, Ludo is brewed on genuine Czech decoction brewing equipment, and traditionally lagered at low temperature.

Ludo will be served on draught at the Sutton Arms, located in Great Sutton St, EC1. The first keg will be tapped at a special launch event at the pub on Wednesday, July 5, where two more new Bohem Brewery beers will also be available:

  • Vrána, a 4.5% ABV traditional Czech black lager. Named for the Czech for crow, Vrána sits in the Bohem portfolio alongside popular dark lager Raven;
  • Saxana, a 2.7% ABV dry-hopped table lager. Saxana is named for a beloved Czech children’s character, a good witch.

The launch event will include an opportunity to experience beers poured in the authentic Czech style by a specialist bartender, as well as a prize draw to win exclusive Bohem Brewery merchandise.
