Manchester Beer Week kicks off with city’s biggest ever brewery open day

A dozen breweries across Manchester are set to join forces this summer to host the city’s biggest ever brewery open day.

The unique event will take place on Saturday June 24, as part of the festivities organised for the opening weekend of Manchester Beer Week.

It is a chance for drinkers to enjoy beer from Manchester’s best producers at its freshest and learn more about the stories behind the contents of their pint glass.

Twelve breweries across the city centre will throw their doors open to the public throughout the day, serving up delicious beer and food alongside a series of tours, tastings, talks and debates.

Those opening will include a quartet from north of the city centre – Beatnikz Republic, Blackjack, Joseph Holt and Runaway – as well as eight from the Piccadilly area – Alphabet, Beer Nouveau, Chorlton Brewing Co, Cloudwater, Dan’s Brewery, Manchester Brewing Co, Squawk and Track.

“Manchester’s brewing scene is incredibly vibrant at the moment, so it seemed only right that we should dedicate the opening weekend of Manchester Beer Week to the breweries themselves,” said Connor Murphy, organiser of Manchester Beer Week.

“This is a unique chance for the public to explore virtually all of the city centre’s independent breweries and find out more about the quiet revolution taking place in unassuming industrial units across Manchester.

“You don’t have to be a beer fanatic to enjoy it either. Each brewery offers something unique so not only will you be spoiled by a huge selection of incredible beer, you’ll also find great food, live music, art, and educational talks and tastings.”

Current highlights from the open day’s itinerary include a debate that asks whether the beer industry has a problem with sexism at Dan’s Brewery, a doughnut and beer pairing event at Beatnikz Republic, and a tasting of Manchester heritage brews at Beer Nouveau.

Although Saturday June 24 is the focus of the celebration, a handful of breweries – including Beatnikz Republic, Blackjack, Beer Nouveau, Cloudwater, Manchester Brewing Co and Track – will also be open at other times throughout Manchester Beer Week’s opening weekend.

About Manchester Beer Week

Manchester Beer Week is Manchester’s only city-wide beer festival, taking place between June 23 and July 2, 2017.

Unlike most beer festivals, which take place in one specific venue, Manchester Beer Week will include a series of different events at venues across the city, including pubs, bars, breweries and restaurants.

The aim is to raise awareness around good beer and promote Greater Manchester as one of the United Kingdom’s premier destinations for beer enthusiasts.
